I have a problem with a dvd movie.

The movie return to chapter 8 after chapter 9 (continues loop)
Selecting chapter 10 or higher also gives me chapter 8

Dvddecrypt gives an error on the last IFO/BUP file.

I tried dvdshrink, dvdxcopy and dvd rescue but they always end up in a loop at 52% (chapter 9 I guess) while reading the disc.

Any suggestions on how to save my movie?
Thanks :)

Couple of questions. :)

Can you remove the .vob files ? These are the movie files, With these you could rebuild the dvd fairly easily with "ulead dvd workshop" "Aura Media workshop" or many other reauthering programs.

Is it a retail DvD ? May be some protection issues to by-pass to rip out the .vobs, Would try taking an .iso of the DvD in question and then try to remove .vob with "ISOBuster" or such, ISO will never work as a reburn but may allow you to remove the important movie data that is needed to rebuild.

Is it disc damage ? Scratch or something on the disc, If the not to deep, Get a good cleaner. Some will polish out minor scratches and also lessen worse 1's.

(.vob files can be opened by any dvd playing software, openwith and stuff.)

Your aim is to backup the .vobs, check em and make sure you can watch hole movie then use em to reauther the dvd. There may be some copyright infringements(sp?) involved, May want to check that out before you try anything. or not :)

Hope some of that helps.

It's a retail dvd yes :D

I can copy the vob files without a problem.

I can rip the whole movie to HD with dvddecrypt (it removes encryption) so copy protection is not an issue.
As said I only get an error on the last IFO/BUP file.
I don't know much about the dvd structure but aren't the menu and chapter info stored in the IFO files. BUP files are just backups of the IFO files right??

Anyway... dvd rescue only copies the VOB files and tries to rebuild a working dvd using those files. It also "loops" at 52% while building the new disk :(

Ive sent you a link in PM, as its prob not open board safe :), It refers to a reaurthering dvd's But has a nice link on the page to a program called IFOEdit. It should allow you to play around with em and check for any errors, mis calls. But may not open em if some are damaged, Yes btw, ifo's store chapter data and such like and the others are backups which are called if the IFO has a problem. Its rare that both should be damaged, Has it played before ? fully ?

Have you checked the vob files and see if they run properly. Norm you'll have a few @ anything from 1meg to a couple of hundred, then you'll have 3 or so @ around 1gig ish, open the .vobs direct and let em play, Power dvd, win dvd and many others should allow this. From what your discribing it sounds more like a bad vob then anything, But only way to be sure is to play them direct.
