Thats a bit of a false correlation; Valve hasn't made the game more accessible to cheaters, its simply that the game has become very popular in the time since.
And it may be old and 'shit', but it's time that people realised that its GAMEPLAY and not 'mind blowing gfx' or 'kick ass sound' that makes a game good. I feel sorry for the current generation of kids that never had the chance to play games like 'raid over moscow', or 'bubble bobble', or even 'doom'.
CS will not 'go' until a halflife sequel comes out, or the game is re-done on another game engine.

CS as a game is pretty damn good and the reason people dont like it is because of..well people really. It attracts dickheads like flies round shit, but that isn't the games fault as such. True there are several glaring issues that need addressing, but then so does Day of Defeat, so does MoH:AA and any number of other games out at the moment.
To be honest CS will not die until Half Life 2 comes out (if ever) and then it'll just be CS on the new Half Life engine. CS may evolve but will remain, like there is Strike Force for UT etc.
I was hoping that a new game to beat Half Life would have been released by now, but it doesn't look as if this is likely to happen anytime soon, so Half Life's modified Q2 engined antics will be around for a while yet. So too will its mods, like CS.
The main problem as I see it, and this is about online games in general, is the fact that programmers dont appear to be catering for modemers anymore, so more laggy games are coming out that don't affect broadbanders that much but hit modemers very hard.
And as it goes, CS currently aint one of these games.

Yeah you're right staz. CS is one of the few games you can play with a modem and not be slaughtered by ping. And also if you're fps isnt much good, still you can play.

Its all to easy to say the older versions were better, but IMO the latest version is always the best, it always has the least bugs and better features, more maps etc. I prefer the newer releases because of this, of course 5.2 was the peak of CS for many and for some time I thought that too, particularly because I partly unstoppable at it. Now its pointless dreaming over old versions, they will never come back, best to get your head down and do the business in the new version.

well i stick by my statment and i know plenty of people who would also.
CS is crap, yeah everyone has their own opinions and fair enough too but im not talking about amazing gfx or sound.
I'm talking about the community, some of which are cheaters.
They are causing CS to get in the state it is now, with people hating it more and more.
The point is, as these anti-cheats come out, new cheats are released.
It's like computer virus's. They bring out updates for anti virus software but not long after are more and more virus's released which can "hide" from the anti-virus software.
Each time a new anti-cheat is released it isn't long before the next cheat is released.
This is undenyable.
If valve actually parted with some of their money instead of being tight bastards then they would have paid the punkbuster team to continue.
This was the best anti-cheat software available but since valve are complete wankers over the situation they have been snapped up by the RTCW team to create an anti-cheat program for them.

The only way to tackle cheaters in CS is to get their WONID and completley ban them from all CS servers for good.

To be honest wonids won't do much. Easy to get another. Well for the uber hardcore cheaters anways.
Thing is, BW servers have been quite void of cheats lately. Good work on the most part from admins. Also the better known cheaters out there have been weeded out through their ability to make it so inconspicuous when they cheat the rest of the server automatically know about them.
Of course, they're always gonna be cheats.
Just have to live with it...

It is harder to spot aimbotters on TFC. CS Gaurd is also installed on the TFC servers and seems to be doing good. Ive only caught maybe 3 aimbotters. They kinda stick out when they are snipers with headshots every 2 seconds. This of course was b4 the installation of CS Gaurd. I dont think a day goes by without CS Gaurd finding cheat software on ppls PC's from the BW TFC servers. Always gets a "lol" out of ppl when you see the message.

e_chrono your chatting a load of crap, i was with the pb for a brief time and it wasnt the solution to cheating and couldnt of stopped cheating or continued to stem the tide in its current form even if it was funded properly. Funding was never the issue and was in no way the reason why the PB project died for HL, the reason was because valve did not want us to incorporate PB type features into HL. Making it more secure and less likely for any cheaters to be able to cheat again once they are caught and such, we had numerous ideas that could of brought the near end of cheating, they decided against taking them. That is why PB finished for HL. Valves anti cheat is set to be promising and should include some of the proposed PB ideas...

I know why PB closed down. I never said it was because of funding, if I gave that impression i apoligise.
