Probably old and whatnot. Took out the img tags incase you clicked it by accident ;p

Not that the current drink-driving adverts aren't effective, but would something like this work better?.

This is Jacqueline Saburido on September 19, 1999.

This is her and her Father, 1998.

The car in which Jacqueline traveled. She was hit by another car that was driven by a 17-year old male student on his way home after drinking a couple of hard packs with his friends. This was in December 1999.

After the accident Jacqueline has needed over 40 operations

Jacqueline was caught in the burning car and her body was heavily burnt during around 45 seconds.

Without a left eyelid Jacquie needs eye drops to keep her vision.

Now 20 year old, he cannot forgive himself for driving drunk on that night three years ago.
He's aware of devastating Jacqueline Saburidos life.

Not everyone who gets hit with a car dies. This picture was taken 4 years after the accident and the doctors are still working on Jacqueline, whose body was covered with 60% severe burnings.

I totally agree with you. People on our roads need to be more aware of the consequences of their actions (even if it is speeding by 10-15 MPH) over the speed limit. I think hard hitting adverts would help, but people will always speed. I only stopped because i got caught :twak:

Kinda makes you angry though how the student got off with no marks whatsoever :eek7:

these would be more effective. involving some kind of interview with the person who commited the offence.

Sure you'd be saying that if it was someone you knew?. Thought not ;o

Actually i personally would, if i made a comment like that.

Not that i concur, or you weren't talking about me, but i like myself so i like to put myself into conversations :D

Yeah, "hitting it" comments are cool to a point. Here it was passed.

Anyway, on topic of off-topic: Damn shame what happened, but showing this to people won't make them think twice.

Let's just say...if you're stupid enough to drink and drive, you're too stupid to understand.

I'd disagree.

I found this pictures so horrific mainly because I never realised a car on car colission could cause so much damage. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.

alas, Seel has a point. These adverts only really affect people who stop to think about the consequences of their actions. The people you find drink driving don't seem to consider what they're doing is stupid.

Which imo, it is.

However, if her story stops even just one person drink driving and therefore prevents an accident, then reporting this kind of stuff has done something good.

Edit: Also my father (a horrible, horrible example here) has been responsible for a death of a friend through drink driving but still insisits on doing it, deciding that he's too experienced and manly to listen to the requests of his daughters to stop being a prick about it :p

I'm with you on this. Although most of the time you see people instantly killed in a car crash, or suffer multiple breaks/fractures/bruising or whatever, injuries seem more internal. Most superficial wounds are repairable with reconstructive surgery these days. However when you think that this person was pretty much under the heat of, well i dunno, for almost a minute, theres only so much you can do for her as the pictures show.

It's similar to the fireman who suffered pretty bad facial burns too, anyone remember his name? (was on the "What would you do?" adverts i think, where theres an empty chair in the corner of a room at the end).

He's a widely respected person for the way he faced his situation, though the event posted pretty much blows this one out of proportion. Gotta be fucking courageous to go through something like this and continue to do so.

I was just talking with my bf about this yesterday, those adverts scare the crap out of me, that one with the little girl whos all bashed up on the edge of the road and she points out she has a higher survival chance if you just slow down, the seat belt adverts and the drink driving ones i just can't understand how people can watch these and still drive like they do.

A car is such a dangerous thing and people just are so used to them they don't realise how much damage they can do when behind the wheel its just incomprehensable for me how anyone would ever drink and drive (or do drugs and drive) or speed.

Like Amanita said though people who do these things dont care.

Reminds me of something that happened at work a few months back. I worked in the opticians, D&A on saturdays as pretty much a receptionist (get paid to do fuck all once a week so it's all good :p).

Guy comes up to the front desk, start the usual "Can i help at all?"

"Yeah i'd like to book a sight test mate"

"Ok, when did you want it for?"

"Any time during the week really, will the optician be able to tell if i'm on ecstasy?"

"Erm, yeah it's pretty likely he would, i wouldn't recommend it"

"Oh, see i'm trying with a couple of mates to get a petition going to prove to the government it's safe to drive while on e's"

"...., i'd suggest looking elsewhere if you're after something like that then"

Because obviously driving after taking an E is so much more legal than just taking one :p

i thought with drugs, they cant pull you over unless they suspect something. and even then they have to prove the drug is making you drive un-safely.

Yup, and you can just as easily be pulled over when you're stone-cold sober. Found out from my doing some background reading for my coursework today that you can fail a breathiliser test by using an alcohol based mouthwash shortly before :p

What an odd society we live in :x

Someone at my sixth from had an accident recently. He was well known for racing and being a bit of a chav, in my opinion anyway. Him and a friend were racing down a straight road connecting a village with the main town and he was overtaking. He crashed into an oncoming driver. His friend was fine but him and the other guy were seriously injured. Hes 18 and has shattered everything in his body from the waist down basically. Bit of a reality check to everyone at my school tbh.

the bad thing is that you can be the most safest driver on the road, but if someone else isnt, you can be the one hurt :s

Ive seen those pictures before, and alas despite it looking horrific its a shock tactic to raise Drink/Driving awareness. Its done with prosthetics and the origional story was pretty much similar.

Proves it works though

The really sad thing is a lot of the time when people are driving carelessly or drunk and they have an accedent its usually the poor innocent sod on the receiving end that gets seriously injured or killed, then they (the drunk/careless driver) just gets a piddling fine or a light prison sentance (you killed a family with 3 kids, their grandmother and her guide dog.. how long you get? 6 months but i'll be out in 3).

If people want to do stuff to screw themselves up thats fine by me but when they inflict themselves on others it is seriously fucking wrong.
