Drops :(

Okay so I been in Hibernia for a few weeks now. Vistited every zone, and almost every dungeon. Do alot of exploring, and I'm in no rush to get to 50. One thing I have noticed is a chronic shortage of drops and especially one time drops. I am now level 26, and wear the best scale armour merchants sell. Its blue cons.

My epic quests are insanely difficult (at 15 I had to kill a guy called Macnol in the woods near Parth farm and got mobbed by about 20 grey cons siabras and whistlers, at 20 I had to kill Watcher Rylie at Moon Lake who popped surrounded by green/blue and RED aggro) and the rewards underwhelming. (I have played a Healer, Warrior, Sorceror and Champion to mid 20s now and can safely say that the champ epic quest is the single most difficult quest I have EVER seen in this game)

So I'm looking for nice scale, piercer and medium shield drops suitable for mid to late 20s and early 30s. Any information would be appreciated :) And if someone has some stuff in their vault they don't need I have a modest amount of gold for trade. (Am also willing to whore my lil Lurikeen ass for the most uber items)

Thankyou :)

The point with your epic is that you need a neutral siabra faction to be able to walk out alive with the lvl15 part. It only takes a couple dozen curmedgeon kills to get it to neutral. Have to admit that the Watcher Rylie part is evil though :)

Equipment, well I've always used crafted stuff on my tanks cause it's just far more superior then any other magic drops you can find. Try to do your epics though cause the rewards are well worth the trouble.

Try spraggon den if you really insist on using magic items. Try looking at each zone and what drops there at Allakhazam , makes it easier to find a suitable target for your level. I've never played in the itemized Koalinth Caverns though but you could also try it there.

I must have killed hundreds of curms, but still have bad siabra faction. Any idea why? The only 2 curms that possibly don't con grey are Scrappers and Puggards. Do you know where I can find them? (Assuming that grey cons won't help my faction).

You've killed hundreds of siabras? :p

Curm wanters and ratoners should be blue to you now.. they're in the NW corner of the gorge near the torcs and megafelid etc. Scrappers/puggards are prolly still orange.

Took me 2 lvls of soloing curm wanters just to get neutral siabras :(

No, I haven't killed hundreds of siabras. Other than essential quest siabra kills, I don't think I have killed any intentionally. At a very low lvl, I was grouped with people who killed a few ... maybe 4-5 before I left the group. When my ranger has been given a siabra faction kill task, I have even gone as far as suicide in order to avoid the task. Thanks for the tip though, I will try that.

I think it depends on your race to see how easy a faction is to gain or not as well as how many mobs you have killed. I think elves are closely allied to siabra (and their variants (siogs, dergans, etc.) so it is easier to gain the faction back (soloing on siog seekers has made them aggro to me now).

The Path of Essence Moonstone quest is a bugger though. The only advantage a neutral faction gives to you (and I went up there as an Elf Champion) is that you can walk right into the woods to Macnol. If you have an aggro faction you have no chance. Even then, once you hand the item to Macnol, him and his 50 mates twat you. The only chance is to get ready to run so you are at least a bit away before you die so it is easier to get someone to rez you.

Even helping a friend recently when all these were grey, I had no chance of taking all the aggro off him. I survived easily but he didn't.

The Watcher Rylie again is another tough one again and very reminicent of the Macnol bit. That is, hand an item or speak to an NPC, tough mob (Blaesich was red to me) and his 50 mates run to get you. again same tactic, run away so someone can rez you safely (although reading DAoC Warcry someone managed to do this without being killed by being in the water which I find strange as the trackers are in the water).

All in all, any XP you get as the quest bonus for the level 20 and 25 parts is very quickly taken away by death. Fortunately, the level 30 part is an easy run to Rory in the Bog of Cullen. My advice is don't go alone for the level 20 and 25 parts but go with a rezzer.

I hate the Moonstone quest (even though the items are good)!

On a releated topic, having done the level 30 part and got Fagan's Helm of Honour I see it has 5 charges on it. Anyone any idea what they do? I have tried using the USE key but to no avail.

Well, I went to kill Macnol at lvl25 and I took a 23 warden (it is a 15 quest btw). All the dergans who jumped me after Macnol attacked were grey to me. The warden died and I barely made it out alive. I msged a 35th champ who did it at 30 and he died.

The 25th step was to kill a yellow cons dude in Lough Gur, he came with green and grey cons buddies. I died, and had to ask a mentalist friend for help. Clearly this epic is stupidly difficult and probably needs to be toned down a bit imho. My epic for my warrior at 20 was to kill a yellow cons aggro mob at the stones in Skona. No adds, easy as pie. What gives that the champs epic is so hard?

i remember doign these quests as a champ in beta, was loads of fun, i dont see why you are complaining really, its a challenge!
Dont give up on it, Moonstone quest is really awesome, much better than the hero epic i must say.

Depends if you like dying. I couldn't care less dying when solo, if I die it's my fault. Kinda sucks when you do a lvl15 quest and take along a 23 warden for the ride, and she dies. This is not fun.

You should be able to do your epics solo, and at the lvl they are given to you. If you can't or you MUST die in order to complete that quest, something is wrong.

This is a multiplayer game, for heaven's sake. Grab some friends and take them with you. If you don't have any friends, make some.

And epic quests should be hard. Mythic could just make it so that your trainer gave you this stuff when you came in after levelling, but how much fun would that be?

Sure its a multiplayer game. But the majority of people solo quests. Thats just the way it is. Most quests don't encourgae soloing, and it is extremely boring and ultimately unrewarding (in game terms) to follow someone on repeated trips across the entire realm so they can get a quest reward and you get nothing. I wil generally help anyone on their quests, because I really enjoy this part of the game. But it makes me feel as bad as I can feel playing this game when I take a friend along to do a quest, and she dies, I live AND I get the nice reward.

The questing side of this game sucks, don't tell me any different. There are no 'real' group quests, most are overly long or stupidly difficult. It is sad, because the questing side of this game could be so much better for the times when we do not want to just xp xp xp xp xp or for people who just happen to want to play solo (and there are times when I feel anti-social and like to solo a bit). During my epics I msged several high level champs asking for tips, about 50% hadn't even bothered with their epics....

My exp loss for the deaths on my epics was around 2bubs. And around 3g of healer costs. My warden friend died twice helping me, similar xp loss and healer costs. We had to exp for 2hrs to make that back. I got the reward, she got nothing.

Most quests are inherently lame because they are all about talk to NPC A who sends you to kill mob B and take the dropped item to NPC C who will send you off to kill mobs D E and F in exchange for reward G. But I honestly don't know, given the limits of the game engine, how they could be made to be any better. Mythic claims that they have something called a "Dynamic Questing Engine" but frankly I don't think they ever finished it and made it work, I'm pretty sure it's not yet implemented.

But quests have given me some fun in the game, soloing (getting to see parts of the realm I hadn't explored yet) and in groups (since we're an all stealth guild we have all done the same quests so we will often have higher level players lending a hand to lower levels). Taking people to see Bran the Giant is always fun.

Interactive GM-run quests would be the most fun thing, of course, but given the sheer economics of running them (thousands of players, not very many GMs) i'm betting that most players will be lucky to even get to participate in one or two once they get going.

Back to the original post:

One place that Hib really got the shaft was in OTD's. In Mid the first one is at lvl 9. In Hib it's at lvl 29. Once you get to that stage, tho, there really are some nice ones out there. Some advice:

- Check out the OTD listing at http://www.gamebanshee.com/daoc or your level range at http://daoc.warcry.com/quests (the OTD's are mixed up with the quests - just check the details).

- Hunt in Sprag Den and move onto Treibh as soon as you can. Both have a great range of magical drops.

- Don't bother with merchant armour and weapons. Buy player crafted wherever possible. I suggest Ortunga for weapons and Danita for armour (been a while since I was in the market for armour, but they were the ones who I used)

- Do quests. There are quite a few obscure little quests that have great items as rewards, like the West Wind quest.

On the topic of quests, does anyone know which NPC you talk to to get the Touch of Amadan Dubh quest? The warcry notes say Filidh Martin, with a starting location of Daingean? Call me dumb, but where the **** is Daingean???? The reward is a nice lute that I am badly in need of, so would appreciate any help.

Daingean is the tower where the vault keeper is, southwest of the Connla bridge.

Well, I went to kill Macnol at lvl25 and I took a 23 warden (it is a 15 quest btw).

Yes, thanks for jogging my memory. I did the level 20 part in Lough Gur with no problems, but did it at higher than level 20 and took someone with me (a bard I think).

Whilst I agree quests should be a challenge, the challenge should be reasonable considering the level of the quest. Certainly getting beat up by Macnol and his mates at level 15 is something I would consider more than a challenge, I would consider it impossible at level 15 (unless anyone here did it at level 15 and can prove me wrong). At level 25 or so Blaesich was red and the trackers green/blue and loads of them. Again, another very hard/impossible challenge. Even with a group at the level of the quest on the group, I reckon that most groups would die.

I definitely agree with Chesnox, these quests are too hard for the level they are at with far too many adds. What is the point of giving XP out when you lose it again (other than to slightly compensate you for the inevitable death).

By the way, I hope to take others of my guild on the level 25 part at some point and I am going to have my revenge on Blaesich.

Back to the first post, there are drops you can get below level 29. Muire dungeon gives drops as do the parths (I had a nice Long Thorned Tree Knot Large Weapon and some scale), walking rocks (scale, Mineralised Ring, Crystal shard), siabras (Siabran Gloves), anger Sprites (Silvered Sprite Helm), etc. Certainly, you can get stuff before you get up to the level to go to Treibh or the Mines.

Considering Ortunga's message today, he will be able to make most weapons with the currently available materials, and depending on how far past 800 he is, maybe the ancient weapons as well at Tier 8 material. I like the spells/stat boosts that come with magic items even though the quality is lower but if Spellcrafting is implemented eventually, then there is no reason we should not have 100% quality weapons with magic items as well.

Are you not giving away your trade secrets? I am dying to know how you did it solo let alone with a group of level 15s.

get neutral siabs.. helps with most of the epics in hibbie land

druid/bm/mentalist epic would be hard with aggro siabs.. with neutral siabs its just a walk in the park

and epic rewards are usually great, atleast lvl30+ stuff, and mostly not soloable, atleast not lvl40 one, lower ones should be easy (as a reminder: neutral siabras) to solo

for 30+ epics, just get a group of same type epic quest ppl and go do it, thats how we did the lvl40 epic, tho we needed more help than 1ment, 1bm and 1 druid, last mobs were hard

The Moonstone quest is far from 'insanely difficult' IF you are a bard. Neutral faction with siabras is a must though. I did the quest before the latest patch (which added the whistlers?), but at least before it was possible to sprint/speed song away from Macnol and his troops, and same went for Watcher Rylie & Co. Does a champ actually have to kill Macnol anyway? At least as a bard I didnt have to, if I remember it correctly, and, yes, I did solo both lvl15 and 20 parts without dying.

A champion does the quest like anyone else, he doesn't have to kill Macnol but hasn't got the option when soloing of a speed song to run away LOL.

I was neutral to siabras when i did this quest and all I noticed was that a neutral faction lets you actually get in there (you cannot get close to Macnol without one there are loads of dergans in there). However, when you finish talking to Macnol he takes an instant dislike to you (as do his mates) so any neutral faction is no good after you have talked to him he hits you anyway LOL (the git and that goes for tracker blaesich as well, no he is a bigger git :D ).

Btw anyone know any curm spots for a level 35 who wants to be friends with the siabras again?

as far as i know he can do everything diamond :) the diamond guarded rapiers are very nice indeed ;)

as for some good crafters

Armour : Thanatlos, Danita
Weapons : Ortunga
Tailoring : Ivynoxia
Fletching : Merbos

I think that they are all 800+, so probably your best bet for whatever you want making ;)

Nice, I wonder how much a diamond cobalt sledge hammer would be (alb whacker). No, I just looked over 100g in materials alone.

Only asking because ancient weapons require X115 skill to make so to make one without the chance of losses with diamond would require 815 skill

The Amadan Dubh quest is not in this version yet, should be in with the next patch though ( 1.46 afaik).
Warcry states Filidh Martin as starter, but it's actually the harper at the boat in Connla ( Filidhs normally only point you towards quest - btw, he's not always at Daingean, he walks between Connla and Ceannai, passing Daingean on his route though...)

Try the curm ratoners and curm wanters in the gorge they are about yellow and orange at lvl 35.
The curm ratoners are between the first rats spot and the cruach imp spot, beware of invaders though.
The curm wanters occupy a whole trench near the Little Star Otd in the NW corner of the gorge, not a lot of invaders at this spawn.

Danita.

Thanks for that information, I know they are some somewhere near the lake where the mermen spawn on the way to the torcs and the stone circle with the leprechauns. Wasn't sure about the level though.

The moonstone quest is really nice:

on lvl 15:
macnol attacks u after the last step and the whole camp joins in - regardless of your siabra faction.

on lvl20:
I simply ran away and did not die as the trackers spawned.
the following add-on quest "blabla promise" was a complete disaster. After swimmign through the lake at innis, running through the pookas to get to the merucha pond (direct way from innis which was your last step before this one) and then back along the border to connla, I finished the quest and got -> 7 silver.

i'm lvl25 now but didn't bother to try it since i heard i need some backup to kill the group which awaits me ...
