I have my third driving test this afternoon (the other two were both around 18 months ago) and while I feel I'm a much better driver now, I'm still bricking it.

Any tips or funny test related stories to take my mind off things?

One of my mates knocked an old lady down as he was pulling out of the test centre on his first attempt, cant go worse than that!

Tip would be to just concentrate on driving and ignore the instructor, most of the minors I got were from trying to take sneaky peaks at what the guy sat next to me was writing rather than just concentrating on the driving.

Also just take your time, ignore the other people on the road as much as possible (without being dangerous) and dont try and rush as thats when you make the most mistakes.

Good luck!

Ignoring other road users is terrible advice, frankly. That's what 50% of driving IS: observing what the retard in the nova with two ehausts is going to do next.

Nah just think fuck it, if you fail it won't kill you just re-book. Go into it thinking you don't give a fuck if you fail and you should do ok.

I went into my bike test not giving a shit, it is after all only money if you fail. Just don't make other road users change what they are doing, direction, speed etc and be sure to overtake if you can on dual carriageways to show you are confident.

Good luck, you don't need it though, just ignore your nerves and for 30 minutes concentrate.

Don't play chicken with oncoming buses on your test. They will FAIL YOU.

Nit-picking bastards :(

focus. you already know how to do everything in the test, so the issue is looking ahead to see what kind of shit the examinator is trying to pull.

So look ahead, and if the guy tries to get you to drive through a stop sign, or up a one way street the wrong way you can quietly laugh to yourself because you saw it coming a mile off (literally).

Also, a higher stress situation, for example getting you to parallel park in a busy street, etc where other drivers may beep at you or stuff, just imagine Shakira giving you a sweet lap-dance and do the maneuver like you've been taught to.

Cheers guys, if anything makes me fail it will be my nerves. Or not slowing down enough. It's a amazing how much faster a hazard comes up to you at 30mph than it does at walking pace.

I'm not too bothered about the money if I fail Trem, but I really resent using up holiday time for anything that doesn't involve cold drinks and hot women.

My nephew failed his driving test 6 yes thats right 6 times. Please dont become another one like him as he is the butt of every driving joke going and some!!

When i went for my driving test here in Qatar, one of the others taking the test decided to drive straight through the one police car in the driving school at about 40KmH, which obviously didnt go down well.

Good luck Fweddy! I did mine for the first time a few weeks ago and passed.. I actually thought I'd totally fucked it up after approaching a confusing-looking junction waaaay to fast but the examiner was happy with how I dealt with it after so he just put it down as a minor. I was much more relaxed for the rest of the test though after I thought I'd messed it up :) I'm not suggesting doing something dangerous in the first few moves of your test but y'know, it inadvertently helped me I think. :D

My examiner's phone went off so he said to pull over when it was safe so he could switch it off. Cue craning neck to see what he had written on the sheet so far. :) Didn't bloody understand any of it at the time though. :(

Also, I had an hour of lesson right before my test - we did a reverse around a corner for practise, turned out to be the same corner we did it on in my test :D

Conversation right before the test:
Instructor "What's the only manoeuver that doesn't involve lock-to-lock steering?"
Me (with sudden blank mind) "Ummmmm... emergency stop?"
Instructor "lol"

And also (because I'll probably miss the edit time limit after I finish writing this), one of my instructor's other pupils took her test earlier the same day. She passed but the examiner said she took so long to stop for the emergency stop she could've killed three people. And yet she still passed??

I've taken 5 driving tests in my life, passed every one of them first time :)

Now you've passed your test you can start learning to drive. Ditch the L plates and go for a drive, it's the best feeling in the world.

It was absolutely terrifying. I was doing pretty well at just concentrating on what I was doing instead of panicing until I ran over a fence and then I was sure I'd failed. It was one of those plastic temporary fences they put around roadworks that had blown over in the wind. The examiner reckoned it had been safer to go over it that it would have been to go round it though, so I was lucky.

He also commented that I never looked behind me when I did my turn in the road, and that I approached some junctions too slowly. I got seven minor faults in the end, all for different things.

Very happy times in the pub last night. Passing is such a great feeling!

8 minors for me and I nearly stalled when I went into that junction in 3rd. :D

My instructor said I would definitely fail if I didn't look out the back window in my turn in the road. But he also said how inconsistent the examiners were. And I didn't do a turn in the road anyway so it never cropped up. Reverse around corner (which I did look out the back for) and bay park in the test centre car park at the end. :)

6 minors here and passed first time. Mostly for being too hesitant.
Thought I'd failed when he asked me to pull over (routine) and I saw a cat run underneath the car. Explained this, safetly did all the stopped the car, getting out, checking, getting back in and starting up safely routing, and he was apparently fairly impressed despite saying he'd have been tempted to just go anyway!

But more important, ruddy well done & congratulations!

When i did my test all you needed to do was go forward 6 foot and then back 6 foot, Sounds easy doesn't it, but you try getting the horse to go backwards when its pulling a cart

It was a nightmare i tell's ya !!!

I'm think my examiner said it was 16 minors for a fail but that was after he'd told me I passed so I can't be sure.. I wasn't really paying attention. :)

14 minors and you pass.
15 minors and its at the examiners discretion if you pass.
16 minors and you fail.

1 or more major and you fail.
3 minors in the same area normally counts as a major as well.
