The beta is shit, we use it at work on a couple of our test machines. It's exactly the same as XP, but blacker and half the backend stuff is broken :)

I have just installed it on a test pc, added it to our domain, but can't find a way to switch off that "display picture logon thingy" and get the old username + pasword + domain logon screen.
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place :(

Hi guys

I'd take any release date with a pinch of salt, but Christmas 2006 seems about right given that Microsoft effectively restarted much of its work on the Windows 2003 codebase and not XP per se as originally planned (3D Realms' Guide to Development: Available in all good book shops ;)).

As for Vista itself, it's still far too easy to pass judgement on a product which isn't even feature complete. At least wait until Beta 2 or the release candidates when the features will be in place and polish being added :)

Kind Regards

Aye of course Jonty, but as far as I can tell, there have been no improvements over wxp, apart from it needing a beefy gfx card in full "oh look im so fucking pretty" mode, which imho is hardly an improvement.

July 2007 sounds about right then.

Not sure I see the point in Longhorn really, the worthwhile bits have been stripped out long ago in a desperate attempt to release sometime this decade, leaving XP + a 'prettier' interface.
