Download speed problems with grabit

I'm having a slight problem with grabit, namely my download speeds have died :(

Last week I bought and installed a new router (having previously had none), a Linksys WRT54GS (ver 6), wanted a wireless router in advance of buying a Wii so it could do the internet mojo. Trouble is since then anything I download on Grabit now appears intermittent and much slower than it used to be. To illustrate

http://spinks.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Speed.JPG (linked since the images aren't small) shows my previous speeds and http://spinks.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Speed2Slow.JPG shows the speed afterwards.

I'm not entirely sure what's causing it (this is oddly the first experience i've had with a router), i've tried disabling the wireless mojo in case that was interfering somehow, but nothing came of it. Also reset both the router and modem.

Download speeds elsewhere seem fine, it's just Grabit, when downloading articles, that's become sketchy, different servers don't seem to make much of a difference but updating usenet lists is usually okay :/

The answers probably staring me in the face but meh, i'm just not seeing it :(

I've heard there are things called ports, which, erm, do stuff. Have you tried changing ports?

Well after googling, reading through vaguely explained posts (that made mine seem positively chock full of useful info) it turned out the problem was Kaspersky scanning port 119 and doing something freaky. No idea why this decided to appear now, but it did, so there. Disabled that and the speed appears to have normalised again.

Crisis over, let the pr0n flow freely.
