Ooooooook so we've all heard about bob geldolfs plan to do another concert to raise awareness about poverty and help those who need it <snaps for bob>

listening to the news earlier i couldnt help myself from yelling "WHAT THE FOOK!!" news about how a racial rights campaign group is kicking up merry hell about how the concert will only have 2 black performers, snoop dog and mariah carey (shes black?????)

Ok right i AM NOT racist but if theres one thing i cant stand its arse holes and this group sounds like a meeting of preperation-h's best customers.

Heres a guy and a bunch of performers doing something for people theyve never met and are never likely to meet out of the goodness of their hearts (possibly a small amount of publicity but mostly because they want to help) and this bunch of tossers are having a pop at them for it, how sodding ungrateful is that considering that the majority of the people that will benifit from this concert are black africans, if i was geldolf i'd do a press release asking just what exactly these people have done for those suffering unimaginable poverty and starvation??? Hmmm Hmmm ok go on then what have you done eh? Ooooh you got the nursery rhyme "baa baa black sheep" banned did you? well thats just spiffy well done you, im sure theres thousands of little starving african kiddies out there tonight who will be sleeping a lot sounder under their red cross blankets knowing that, well done you!

Yet another sign that the worlds going to hell in a handbasket, just like someone else said in another thread.

I've always been miffed by the people who go over the top about racial rights and equal rights. Things where bad, real real bad not so long ago, and I feel for those who where being discriminated against, and in some cases are still being discriminated, however this crap needs to stop at some point.

I had a friend who got bullied and had racist taunts shouted at him, and so I know that the problem of racial rights hasnt been dealt with properly yet, but tbh this kind of stuff doesnt help anyone.

Look on any series tv show nowadays and I challenge you to find one without some kind of foriegn minority represented. In a way this is a good thing, it means that atleast in some way things are getting better, but its just getting a little silly when the anti-racist rights are beginning to infringe on the rights of others.

Surely theres a point where anti-racism becomes racism?

I always remember the army recruitment video, where they had the jeep crash and the two blokes, one black and yelling for help, and one white and unconsious, then the text "Who do you help first?", then "The army is trained to deal with silent casualties first, no matter what race they are".

its this kind of thinking that needs to be applied, so what if there are no black actors or singers on just one concert? perhaps -shock horror- there just happened to be no decent actors who where from ethnic minorities?? then another day it might happen the opposite way and there are no decent white/halfcast/blue-with-pink-dots actors and so theres a cast without a minority represented.

IMO untill we get past this "omg we need to have a coloured person" thing we really aint going to stop the bigger problem of discrimination and violence.

As I say, I'm probably as un-racist as you can get, infact just the other week I almost got my arse kicked because I stuck up for a couple of portugese girls on my college bus who where getting hassled, but things like this anti-racist group claiming theres not enough black singers performing just makes me sick.

Hmm, they totally seem to have forgotten that Slash (currently of Velvet Revolver) is mixed race too. But obviously because they are Rock and not "urban" he doesn't count as black. + It's a rock lineup (god knows why the human seal mariah is playing) so they are limited in the bands they can pick.

that and as they point out, they have picked internationally known acts, very few of the "urban" british artists have any impact elsewhere which limits the appeal...

Well I heard they couldn't get any of the black artists they wanted, to do it for free.

We are ALL rascist, it's in our genes, disliking people of other cultures and physical appearance goes right back to when we were crawling thingys staking out our territory, you can resist it, overcome it by exposure, but it's still there.

Rascism is everywhere, it was 80% of the reason the French and Dutch knocked back the EU constitution, fear of more foriegners, it started the world wars and starts new ones every day.
It's a simple test, would you in all honesty be happy if every white family in your street moved out and were replaced by Muslims?

If there is the slightest doubt in your mind you are rascist.

I suppose you have a point, but there are varying degrees of it, I may not be happy about every white person in my street moving out and being replaced by people from a different country, but I would not be overly unhappy unless they did somthing to upset me.

Its a shame that its like that though tbh

i got called a racist because i wouldnt buy something out of a hired car from a black bloke, i just laughed at him. the race card is used far to easily these days, its just stupid that the police force for example has to employ a quota of ethnic officers per year, what if they arent up to the job? employ them anyway to sort out your numbers? turn down white candidates because you have to many?
The most racist people around are the ones who bang on about race relations and equality.

you can't say a fucking word these days without getting accused of being a racist. I think it's sad - and much of it is, sadly, because of the ethnic's immigrants. Im not a racist, but i think it's getting out of hand in many countries and that there's nothing i can do about it (besides, im too lazy)

Apparently, i'm racist, as I have the problem of growing up in the sordid and seedy world of...

Cricket :eek7:

Since before i even understood that the names of teams are basically abbreviations of the country, i pronounced as i heard on the TV, saw on the screen and spoken by the players.

In my lifetime, i have sat in the stands at Lords and chatted to people from all over the world - Aussies, Windies, Pakis... :eek2:

OMGWTF!"!!!!!"!"£!QW!!!

the last one nearly got me my throat slit in a bar in south london after a day at the Oval, and the oddest thing was that i was with a crowd of "pakis" or Pakistanis if you want more syllables (and a capital letter), and it was some scotsman who threatened me - go figure. I grew up in the 80's, i saw the stigma that was attached to the word, but aside from that is a culture of people who 90% of really don't care, and actually notice that it's not at all different from calling me a "brit".

I'm kinda sad that i have to change the way i refer to my friends in company other than at a cricket ground, or in the privacy of my own home, but thats what we do to ourselves as a race - make the things we dont understand taboo, react to it aggresively, never actually LEARN about it. It spawns hate where there really isn't any need for it, tbh...

then again, we are human...

damn humans :twak:

No doubt in my mind. Wouldn't give a toss about them, movers in or out, be they white, black or f*cking green.

I don't give a f*ck equally, but you don't probably believe that so answering your question is kinda moo point.

its a bit like attitude with some of the words like pakis. personally i dont see it as anything wrong as long as its just descriptive and not intended to be some sort of insult like

"you know jon? yeh the paki one well..."

but if it was

"you know jon/ that fucking paki!?"

but then again its with everything, i think its just because most the time its ment to be deregotary and an insult that these words have been largely viewed as negative as its a shame really. i mean know one seems to see English as an insult or Swedish where as Paki is often interpreted as an insult (maybe coz its ment to be pakistani but been shortened im not sure) because most the time its used in a insulting way with a bad attitude which sucks really.

oh and what geldoff is doing sounds pretty good, trying to eliviate 3rd world debt but apparantly its not all that :p ill look into it when im back at school (one of my teachers worked heavily in africa with charitys and was going on about how charity isnt as amazing as everyone thinks - i.e. if u give £1 to charity u've made englanda bout £8 or something)

“I hold no prejudice I hate everyone equally”

If anything I properly give more abuse to people from our own culture so does that make me racist against my own race?

i think its because of the stigma attached to the word. in the 80's/early 90's, everyone from the middle east/asia was described as a 'paki', even though obviously not everyone from the middle east/asia is from pakistan. i don't know if to asian people pakistani people have a bad reputation, but tarring everyone with the same brush is unfair.
a friend of mine got very upset when she was called a paki by some scum, she is bangladeshi, rejects all religion and speaks with a posh accent.

i heard this too. shame really. i expect jamelia would be performing if she wasn't heavily pregnant.

i don't think i am racist, and honestly i don't think i'd notice if everyone in our street moved out and was replaced by muslims/sikhs/buddhists/brethren/amish people, though i'd be offended if anyone tried to impose their religious beliefs onto me.

OK Don't shoot the messenger but..

This was discussed on Radio 4 the other day and was a bit of an eye-opener -

Band Aid 20 years ago didn't have any African-American musicians because basically they shared the general US lack of interest in anything outside its borders (unless it contains oil ofc). Which is odd, because you think they would, eh? Stevie Wonder was asked to play then and refused, saying he didn't want to be the 'token black'.

And it seems African-American musicians are still not that bothered because apparrently LOTS were invited and found various reasons to say no.

So they are being invited, just not saying yes tbh.

I'd be quite happy actually. Cultural diversity is the reason i love living in london.

"there are over 150 languages in the world and when i leave my house and walk down my street i hear every single one of them" to paraphrase Benjamin Zepahniah

In fact the areas i have liven in have had huge Muslim populations and have been predominatly asian. I Like this fact.

just wondering if i could be reaaaaaally pc here,
as many of you know i have red hair, not moaning i love its thoroughly excellant however i have had people all my sodding life having a pop at me because of the colour of my hair.....

wha?

from primary school through high school to the present day i've been walking along and had people yelling out of cars "Oi ya ginger bitch!" i've been sat on a bus and have been verbally abused and if someone wants to have an arguement with me or hurt me one of the first things they focus on is my hair colour, i find this totally rediculous as its not something i can do anything about, i didnt choose to be born with it and infact i did try dying it but dyes wont hold and they just wash out (£70 at a salon just to end up with the same colour hair i started off with pffft!) so i can sympathise with others who have been abused for something that is other peoples problems i.e being fat, from another race, another sex, disabled even folks who wear glasses tbh

the sad fact is some people will pick on any body unless they are an exact clone of the tit thats got a chip on their shoulder and yes predjudice should be wiped out its unfair and to quote a great vulcan half breed "its just not logical"

however people who use these things to gain an unfair advantage over others, or those that are highly over sensitive and make every one else feel guilty even though theyve not done/said anything wrong make me just as sick.

and p.s rofl at mariah human seal.... dont worry seel she's a wannabe!!

Y'know, i get more grief for having blonde hair and blue eyes than most of my ging-argh mates. On chicks, red hair looks great - very Celtic (although Ginger and Curly = Annie. It truly is a hard knock life ;)) but on guys, it's hard to find anything great about being pale.

Anyway, every guy i know with ginger hair gets called "Ging-err" (hard to type phonetically) so at least it's easy for me to remember, what with my old mind starting to give finally :D

they aint getting paid :)

probably the main reason as to why the artists* that said no, said no.

*Notice i said *artists* and not "black artists" as i can guarantee there were a whole bunch of other coloured artists that said no to. and i'm not gonna speculate if there were more "black" artists that said no then others.

sorry if this looks wierd. tired and going to bed...

Racism is well commented with one point also:

If i ran down the street shouting "black power!", i'd be complemented for my bravery and taking a stand.

If i ran down the street shouting "white power!", ...well...

In the future, yes(Paul Ince, Patrick Viera) are all good commadning on the pitch and will probably go on to greater things

All this bollocks about theres only 2 black performers is shit. Maybe because all the black performers talk about shooting each other, thats why there wernt chosen?(Not being racist)

I'm in Mumbai right now. We are trying to set up a team here to support the Maintenance of several new aircraft. Contracts being signed etc. Then we find out that standard aircraft licences (b4 etc.) from outside India are only recognised for 1 year. So they do recognise them just time limited so the Engineers have to sit the very costly local exams. Makes it more attractive to employ locals. Its nothing more than a labour protection racket. I wonder if we did the same in the UK how the reaction would be. Its fine to take the moral high ground like the UK but, every other country outside EU/US is just taking the piss out of us.

Another example. In Dubai they recently announced pay rises for Government staff. Well done, some of these people have not had pay rises in 6 years. If your a local (UAE citizen) then you get 25%. If your an expat you only get 15%. Reading the local papers has been hilarious as most poeple have been saying great the UAE should help their own people. I wonder how the world would react if we did the same in the UK? BTW regardless of how long you live in UAE you can never become a citizen. You are always an expat that has to be sponserd. Same in most countries around the world.

Who are the stupid ones? Those who protect their markets and look after their own or countries like UK who try to be fair to all.
