door holding policy?

what is your policy when it comes to holding doors open for people?

usually if its some pretty girls coming towards me at the door, i will hold it open for them. if there is someone not far behind, say 1-2 seconds, i will hold it open. if someone is using both their hands for something else then hold it open.
i always say thanks if someone holds the door for me and if im quite far away i always feel compelled to run.

now i dont like this running bit. sure they are trying to do a nice gesture, but at the same time youre having to inconvenience your self just because of it. if someone is that far away i walk off and let the door close. it just doesnt make sense having to sprint the length of a hall just because someone is holding the door open.

I always hold the door, for male and females, it is just the way I was brought up. I was taught that holding the door for someone is a respectful thing to do and any likeminded person will see it as just that and show respect in return. Infact I will go out of my way to hold the door for someone even if it means delaying myself for 5-10 seconds, it is just a part of my nature now and I don't give it a second thought.

We was tought in primary school that it's polite to hold the door open.

Majority of people actually hold the door open for anybody. The scallys at college hold to door open for anybody. It's just manners imo

always hold it if people are close enough say 2-4 seconds, i get annoyed at uni though when i do it and then from the other side people just keep barging through so i start shoving

Honest to gods above, i once held a door open for a solid minute(even more possibly), for people coming in and out of a store. I just held it open for a granny, then someone was coming in, so i held it a bit more, then it just became so amusing to myself that i just kept going.

Got a lil smile from a pretty girl watching the whole deal, so not a complete waste of time

I usually check in both directions, in and out, on coming people, if there's someone around that i see IS coming towards the door, i keep it open.

If i'm in a real hurry, and see someone a couple of seconds away, i push the door open as far as i can and walk in.

I'm never in a hurry though, same as if i see some litter on the street, no harm in using a second to pick it up and drop at the nearest bin.

I will happily open a door or hold it open for anyone, for as long as is need to get everyone I can see heading for the door in or out.

When people walk in without saying thank you, I get annoyed and usually shout "your most fucking welcome" to them or some such.

I hold the door for everyone it sucks when you make eye contact with someone walking really slow and end up stood there for ages holding the door.

People who do not say thanks i try to stand on the back of thier shoe to trip them up abit and when they turn round just completly ignor them.

Depends on situation. Usually hold the door open for people (e.g. coming out of a shop) but I don't really care anymore. Was at the point (sorta like mentioned above) where I did it and no one said anything/acknowledged it. Got pissed off with it, so..

To those who hold open doors and expect to be thanked, else you start shouting.. what if the person is a mute, or have a stutter or something? Imagine their anguish having to walk through "your" door without being able to say "thank you" no matter how much they wished they could. They'd probably rather wish you'd close the damn thing and let them go through by themselves.

I usually get a "thanks", but sometimes I get just a smile from people when i hold doors open, and that's quite enough for me.

I hold doors open for the 2sec gap, otherwise it's their problem for walking too slow!

Recently in Egypt my usual holding doors policy went out the window for certain nationals(Russians) they were very, very rude every single one of them that I came across. I have Russian friends in England, but these were totally different.

I had a phrase for them I have no idea of the spelling but it was pronounced
