Doom 3 looks better but HL2 is where my heart is.

I was looking at the screenies for HL2 earlier this week, it is indeed eye candy. Given that its taken so long it should play well too, although this is only a theory.
If it needs the latest in Warp Core technology to play then I'll be waiting.

My gut feeling is the same as tdc's.


Doom 3 will be too shallow - but be technically impressive.

HL2 will just rock beyond belief. (hopefully we'll get a new CS based on this game)


Halo on PC will be dead in the water (if they ever release it)


But we all know that Duke Nukem Forever will be the best. :/

Both those looked awesome, but Doom3 I'm worried about - Doom1 and 2 weren't really meant to scare you, just give you an awful lot of fun.

Doom 1 scared the shit out of me.

Considering i was about 8 at the time :-]

Doom 3 looks and plays fantastic ( going off teh leaked alpha which I absolutely havnt downloaded ).

Lets be honest, Doom 1 and 2 wernt *deep* games.

It was running around blasting monsters with the feeling that something was lurking round the next corner and you were a bit low on ammo :-]


Anyone else remember shitting ( not literally ) themselves at the sight of walking into a room full of Hell Demons with the red key on the far platform, then noticing the invincibility power up :-]

Doom 1 was the first fps I played at home, having played Castle Wolfenstein at work. I like having the lights off and curtains closed for this type of game.
Mrs Yuck came into the room, looked over my shoulder to see what I was doing, a beasty appeared on screen making the usual noises, she shit and left the room. "How can you sit there and play that!?"

I seem to remember seeing some TFC2 footage 2 years or so ago too, but CS CZ is waaaay overdue as well, as is CS 1.6.

I really wish they would make really pretty games like this that didn't require the very latest pc in order to make them crawl along at 30 fps.
I just bought Vietcong , not a game it seems many people like , but I do , anyway, it does look lovely imo. But it goes from 120 fps to 35 fps and back again depending on where you look.And thats on a XP2600/ GF4 4400. I mean ffs hows that going to run on you're avarage P3 1 gig ? Not very well I reckon.
The reason that CS and DoD etc are so popular is because they are easily accesible to the public, without the poor buggers having to go out and spend a grand to play a £40 game. Most people buying doom 3 will end up turning most of the effects off just in order to make it play, thus surely making it a waste of time in the first place !

lol when doom came out I had a 486sx25 with 8MB ram. I could only run doom in 320x200 - 640x480 was way too slow!
