Oh yeah, says who? I am not a Christian scholar of any stature, but this statement sounds like the hallmark ignorance typical to certain kinds of individuals. Regardless of what you believe (if you believe in anything at all), the historical evidence for Jesus' existence is quite substantial.

The name 'Jesus' is Greek btw. Given the guy happened at all (and there is some mention in writings connected with Tiberius) - his name would probably be something closer to 'Joshua'(Aramaic) .

"The ancient assumption to the unanswerable question" kinda sums it up for moi :eek6: :eek2:

If there were infact evidence as you say for Jesus existance I wouldn't question it nor would other sane ppl. But there are no real evidence neither for or against so don't come praise me with that hocus pocus..

Well I definetely aint the scholar type nor am I the most faithful Christian but the way I see it as stupid as some people might think, some sort of figure did exist that made a huge impact back then otherwise why do we have the calendar modeled after this man? 2004 AC or dinosaurs living in 65.000.000 BC? *Just a wild guess about the dinosaurs. Dont start flaming about real years* ;)

for all we know it could have been a black woman with an afro, just i dont think roman scholars, slavers and that would have approved of a woman that could return from the dead :p

Great guess about the dinosaurs:

The end of the Cretaceous, about 65 million years ago, is marked by a minor mass extinction. This extinction marked the demise of all the lineages of dinosaurs save the birds.

Right on the button. :)

Well tbh I remembered some magazine article title way back that made a whole fuss when Jurassic park hit the 65.000.000 $ in the box offices. Guess they were trying to be smart about it ;)

I'm not trying to push religion on anyone, I'm not exactly a pious man myself. Perhaps this was too fine a point for most of the crowd here to appreciate, but I am talking about Jesus as a historical figure; just because you don't ascribe to Christian beliefs does not mean you are allowed to discard the whole religion as a bunch of lies. Like I said, I am not at all knowledgeable in this field, but it seems there is conclusive evidence that he did exist (but perhaps not during the time the Bible says he did, and as to whether his deeds, that is certainly up to your personal beliefs).

Try to read our posts again then cuz' none of us discarded the whole religion as a bunch of lies. We only spoke our mind and who are you to say that we are the ones that are wrong and lieing? You have no evidence neither for or against so stop making things up we never said ^^

Yes, he live in a free country. Yes, he have the right to have a personal opinion. And YES, he have the right to express it in writing.

Im a non-believer of god, but the question about Jesus having existed is not good, as I do believe in science (sp?) and have read this article by some historical scientist who had researched in Jesus, and found out he should have existed for real, doubtly with any of the powers in the bible, but as what we would properly call "a genious" in our society today, he was, according to their research, born between -4 and -8 and during summertime though, as that fit the time of the man-count better, according to other historical document though, if I remember right, was something along that, read it on the libera, so dont have to article ready to scan or quote directly from, but was pretty interesting reading...

Yes, I probably should rephrase my statement, naturally, he has the right to all those things. On the other hand, I personally see it as the responsibility of every free-thinking individual to vanquish ignorance in yourself and others. Unfoundedly saying Jesus did not exist (i.e. as a historical person) just because you happen to not be a Christian is, in my view, ignorant, when the evidence either way is not conclusive (depending om who you ask). Zebolt's original statement came across as exactly that, unfounded.

As you said, "he should have existed for real". I do not question that a lot of ppl say or believe he did exist, but there are still no real evidence. And by that I do not say I have any evidence against it. Prove me wrong and I will say he did exist, before that I will still claim he didn't and thats up to me to call :>

But Im pretty sure that when Zebolt said "Jesus did not exist" he was not talkin about a historical person. He was talking abot THE Jesus, the one son of God, and I do not believe that God exist and therefore he can not have a son.

I am Christian tho which rly doesn't have anything to do with it. And if no one for certain can tell if Jesus did exsit or not aka to be 100% certain. What makes me say Jesus did not exist more ignorant than the person saying Jesus did exist? It's just two sides of the view :eek7:
