How many years ago!!!1

Cos if its like 6 years ago then there isn't much time left!!!

I heard that the story came from some paper which featured other headlines like "An Alien President imposter shagged my dog" and other ludicrous titles ;)

all looks bollocks to me. first they tell you in books that stars get bigger and bigger then collapse on them selves and implode and turn into a neutron star or a black hole. now they are telling us they explode, thats a different kettle of fish altogether.

"satellite photographed a massive explosion on the surface of the Sun that sent a plume of fire 30 times longer than the diameter of Earth blasting into space. "

solar flare, my dear watson. they have been taking pictures of these things for aslong the equipment existed. sometimes these flares are big enough to disrupt earth' magnetic field and make the power stations go a little crazy.

"Temperatures on the surface of the Sun have been steadily climbing over the past decade, the scientists say.

"This, we believe, not man-made pollution, is responsible for global warming and the alarming effects that we've seen take place on Earth such as the melt-down of the Antarctic ice shelves," asserted Dr. Van der Meer. "

Strange this seeing as the o-zone hole is shrinking due to us using less harmful chemicals.

Our sun will become, what is called, a red giant in about 10 billion of our lifetimes and will swallow everything up to and including mars.

It will not explode like stars known as supernovae

The sun's surface temp has been getting hotter, but this is due to the 11 year solar cycle and nothing else. Last year was a solar maximum.

There is reason to believe a larger sun cycle is responsible for global warming but scientific evidence is inconclusive.

p.s. believe me, i'm a scientist :)

and people like this should be shot in all honesty :D

Hmm, he's dutch. Little too many trips to Dam. Also what's the point in telling us if it is true. Not a whole lot we can do is there.

That earns you a big fat F.

It depends on the stars mass whether it goes kaboom or not. Our sun is too small to "get big" and explode. For our sun to reach this emphatic climax, it would need to be around ten times larger in density. Our Sun will become a red giant in about a billion years time, maybe more, i forget. Anyway at that stage, it will shrink and through the dying stages that stars go through, will become a white, brown dwarf.

And somehow i doubt the sun will "blow up in a few years and i also doubt the core temperature is rising at such a rate. If it was we would have been dead by now. The changes here on Earth a far too small to claim the Sun is getting too hot.

edit:/ just saw legendario's reply, praise be to him.
