just to stick my head in quickly, when I studied photography one of the very first things we did when learning about the characteristics of light was to shoot lasers through very fine aperatures and create interference effect.
there's a page here that I found (really really) quickly that may not have actual relevance but I don't particularly care as it shows in pretty pictures what I mean. scarily enough, I used to be able to use the forumlae that are on the page, though they mean goat-doodoo to me now

anyway, my point is that I am not all that keen to go and sit in an EM hot spot. *goes off and sits in a nice safe server bunker*
