Dog attacks

None of the news media have questioned why the fuck a 5-year-old girl was up and about at 4.30am. I know it was New Years Day.... but it's rather late for a child of that age to be up (or rather early).

The main responsibility in these events lie with the owner, and not the animal itself. As such it's the fuckwit owner who should be punished, and possibly put to sleep.

From my limited understanding of dog breeding is it fair to say that most dog breeds have been created by human interferance? Selecting dogs for various useful traits and breeding them together? Why the fuck, in the 21st century, would anyone need a dog that's been bred for it's willingness to attack other dogs and people? De-ball the lot of them and let the breeds die out.

I am all for the dogs on this one. It makes my stomach turn when I see kiddies mauled by animals but I can always find a reason why it isn't entirely the dogs fault.

The media need this until the bird flu panic sets in again, then it will be all for burning chickens.

Eight pit bull terriers have been seized during police raids in St Helens and Widnes.
The raids followed the death of Ellie Lawrenson, five, who was mauled by a type of pit bull terrier at her grandmother's home on Monday.

Six of the dogs were taken from St Helens, the town where Ellie died. Police suspect they were being trained to take part in dog fighting.

Apparently this follows a tip off to the police.... kind of puts a different light on the situation if the dog had been bred for, trained for and used in dog fights.

I do get upset when I read that dogs have to be put down because a stranger has touched them, and they've reacted because they feel threatened. A few years ago I was walking home from school and I passed an old lady from down my road, talking to a friend, with her dog tied to the garden fence a few houses down. I went to stroke it, and it bit me on the arse. Fortunately it never drew blood, but it fucking hurt. She felt so guilty she brought a box of chocolates over the next day and begged me not to tell the authorities. I think she thought I was going to grass it up and have it put down, but it was my own fault for touching a dog that wasn't my own. It was a lovely little dog that I'd met a thousand times before, but I approached it when it wasn't next to it's owner and it obviously took that as an intrusion of his space. There was no way that dog had been brought up to respond like that. The owner was one of the nicest people I knew, and spoilt it rotten.
Our first family dog was a little cockerspaniel, good as gold. Until my sister grabbed it's legs whilst she was eating her dinner, and she bit my sister - almost taking her eye out. It had to be put down because of that, despite my brother and I claiming it was the dogs natural defense system. My mum said she took it to be put down, but to be fair I think she just let it out at a motorway. We'll never know.

Then you get these shits that have a dog purely because it makes them look like 'ard bastards. I remember a story my grandmother/dad have told me, of my father when was younger. He lived in Brentford which is/was a bit of a shithole, and he was walking his dog. It was a big golden retriever but it was as soppy as anything, and loved being around people. There was a skinhead on the field with a bastard looking rottwieler, spiked chain and the works. The owner told his dog to attack my dads dog and it did just that. My dad had to carry him home in his arms covered in blood, but it was too late then. They had no idea why the bloke did it. He just walked off laughing afterwards. The owner and dog were never found, and who knows what else that dog could've done had more people been around. But still, I've met lovely rottweilers before. One of my relatives had one, and it was such a friendly dog. They went out for the day once leaving the dog inside, and came back and it was dead. Something must have startled it or set it off somehow because it had ran headfirst into the patio door, smashing the glass, and it's own skull.

It's weird when you're being chased by a dog. In my experience there is always an exact point where they'll just stop, and stare you down. As if they've marked their territory so finely and once you're out, their job is done. I think at the end of the day alot of it depends on the owner and how it's brought up, but every dog has that instinct in it's blood, and they have to be treated with respect and realised that they have their own behavioural patterns and aren't just here for our amusement.

I have generally stayed clear of dogs and the like in the past, i like them, but im more of a cat-person anyway, although maybe one day i will go and get myself a dog, but i dont think it would be fair if i got one being single etc, for the company side of things.

I have very rarely been chased by dogs, the only time that comes to mind at the moment is when i was running down a street this huge dog come out of nowhere. Scared the shit out of me but all i did was freeze to the spot, and it just lost interest and walked off. Scared the shite out of me.

Its sad when things like this happen to kids, especially to the point were someone actually dies - But the uncle may not get prosectuted by what i was told yesterday, just a shame it had to happen so close to home...
