For a realistic look at the reasons XP can quite suck.

Like most of us I'll prolly end up running it - but it does suck what M$ do

Gah! Another XP thread.

I don't see this as realistic at all. There a four theoretical arguments here, put forward by an anti-MS group.

For me, the man on the street, the humble consumer, the common user, XP is lovely. Passport is fine. MP3s in MediaPlayer are great.

I guess I'm biased. I like MS products, I'm familiar with them and they work. A lot of 3rd party software pisses me offm, such as.

• Adobe Acrobat 5's f'king license screen which pops up at the back of your desktop so you can't see it to click on it and so sit there waiting for Acrobat to load, while it's waiting for you to say 'OK' to the same license for the 7 millionth time.
• RealPlayer's endless stream of check boxes which must be unchecked on install to prevent an endless stream of advertisements and emails.
• QuickTime 5 f'kin advert splash screen and endless load times.

I think that's all the non-MS stuff I use now, apart from AV software and ZoneAlarm.

God, I LONG for the day Windows MediaPlayer is allowed to run QuickTime and Real files.

Still. Sod it, eh?

real player is the devil :/

everytime i use it changes all the options so it can startup when i boot ect..hence i dont use it.
i dont like windows media player either...
which is why i use the small version of windows media. in the install dir, its under wmedia2.exe i think, and it has no loading times, no colour, its just a plain media player

Anyone else think that mp3s sound better in Media Player than in winamp?
Just feels more bulky though

It's probably just the way MediaPlayer equalises them.

here we go...

I too have Windows XP...

my experience of it so far is:

1) Click install
2) Choose upgrade
3) Sit and wait
4) Restart computer, watch the first few setup screens, then after the new windows logo fades out, stare at a blank screen for approx 3 hours (thats how long I left it, I went out).

I have so far:
Tried different install options.
Removing ALL non essential hardware

and it still didnt work.

Am downloading a Bios update now.

Spec is new:
Abit KT7-R (Raid is disabled)
Duron 800
256 MB RAM
IBM 40 Gig HD
1 Fuming owner.

Help?

Possibly an ACPI problem, but I've found the following newsgroups are populated by MS developers and other knowing peeps who seem exremely keen to help. They'll point you in the right direction.
