DoD - How f'king good?

Still struggling with CS but am now playing DoD. I know I'm lagging behind the HL community but BLOODY HELL! This game is just top!

At least until Allied Assault comes out but until then...

OH MY GOD!

Maybe one day, years from now I'll be able to reply to posts like 'DoD 5.1 rawks!' with, 'yeah, but Dod beta 1.3 was better...'

only just seen a rolling demo of allied assault. it seems strangely familiar to the originals, not that thats a bad thing tho. and i liked some of the graphical touches like shutters moving in the wind

Welcome to DoD mate, much better than CS, i gave up playing CS when beta 1.1 of dod came out. and still loving it, with beta 2.0 just around the corner and imho its gona double its poularity, it looks like its gona be that good.

Just hope it dosn't bring to many of the lamer CS cheating community with it.

Agreed. I'm not sure I'll ever play CS again. DoD is far better, imo.

Although the Omaha map seems a bit weak, but maybe it's becasue all the other maps a so f'king blinding.

Yeah but hitting somebody with a relic rifel is alot harder in real life than it is in dod.


Thing is you have an extremly unbalanced weapon. Sure dam staight it would drop you in one, but with the speed dod player models move at it's hardly difficult is it.

Fact-realism 'yes'

Suited to a computer game 'no'


DoD to me is a mish mash of game, it strives for realism in certain areas, and pulls away from it in others.

None of it realy suits a computer game, you either have one or the other.

Eg, flashpoint (the extreme) or CS (the lack off)

they just want to get c.s style models and graphics and i'd play it no end.shame the german rifle is so much slower than the allied one.
as far as realism goes,i know it aint perfect,the sten gun i use for the staff sargeant works great but in real life it was a pig apparently lol.

They're adding recoil in b2...

Personally, i think the KAR is far too strong. Everyone whores the garand, but it's got shite accuracy. With the Kar, you get top accuracy, almost guarenteed 1 shot kill, and a bayonette for thiose dark bunkers where you cant see shit...

I am a complete DoD n00b (throdgrain will testify to this) but I am seriously enjoying myself with this game. The sound fx are spot on and the grenades are lethal to the point of annoying sometimes. I like the stamina system which prevents peeps from jumping up and down on the spot and getting headshots (like CS) but isn't as severe as the stamina system in Firearms (which is just plain silly).

As for the weapons, heh, I wubs them. The Tommy gun is fab coz it was dead accurate and packed a hell of a punch (.45 pistol rounds). With regard to the Sten gun comment earlier, your dead right they were a pig (cue history lesson).
The British Army ordered the Sten gun to replace the American Thompson because the US weapon was far more expensive to buy (£15 as opposed to about £2 per weapon). But it literally fell apart in the field, you couldn't hit a barn if you were inside it and if anything went wrong with it, you threw the whole lot away and got a new one.
The Parachute Regiment were in a state of near open rebellion when they learned that their cherished Tommy Guns were to be swapped for a pile of shite that spat 9mm bullets more akin to a shotgun blast than a sub machine gun.

The Garand rifle is pretty nice (I like the ping of the mag clip flying off as you fire the last round ) but it wasn't as powerful as the Lee Enfield or German Mauser bolt action rifles. Also the German bloke gets 4 fecking grenades!!!!

Have to agree with Kurt that some of the elements aren't exactly suited to a FPS game, but my only gripes are with the fucking spawn campers that blight this game sometimes and also that stupid airstrike system on the Hill map, which is anotherwise rather good map. Caen r00lz though

PS: In case you are wondering, I do actually know what I'm on about for a change. My dad was an armourer for the REME in 1947 in Germany and he's fired nearly every weapon from WW2.

btw i was at the imperial war museum in london this weekend where i saw a sten gun up close.the mad thing is it looks just like the one on DoD and nothing at all like the one on rtcw.

I have just given up CS due to the fact that its full of cheaters and basically its had its time.
I have now moved onto DoD which I find to be more fun with a more mature gamer playing it.
Keep with DoD, dump CS.
Its had its time and has overdone it.
Its now Camper Strike

well i have been accused of cheating myself recently in DoD but i dont think i,ve actually seen any real cheats, i dunno.
really c.s. is bound to involve camping in a game where quite often who shoots first wins,but thats just the game,within reason i dont have any problem with it.
i expect that a lot of DoD players are ex-cs players,as they have a great fear of being killed.they forget i think that you re spawn as reinforcements 10 seconds later.
as an ex q2 player i have no such problem! some times , particularly as an allie,i get pretty high scores,but with high deaths too.lots of other ppl have scores of ,like, 6-3,when mine is 25-15 or whatever...

I installed DOD yesterday, and got accused of cheating on my first map. Damn easy to kill with those light infantry rifles.

It's a bit full of grenade spamming though. Kind of ruins an otherwise excellent mod.

I'm thinking of DL the DoD mod but want to know if their are plenty of servers out their to play on in the uk, as i dont think my crappy 56k connection will play to well on servers outside the UK.
If so can anyone recomend where i should go for my first ass kicking.

barrysworld have 2 public servers plus a few clan ones.
jolt have more pubbies,but they tend to just play 1 map ,which is ultra boring imo.
there are other servers too but i cant bring myself to utter thier names uke:

I reckon BW should give over 1 or 2of those 12 man CS servers that are ALWAYS empty and convert them to 16 man DoD ones, but hey what do I know.

As far as scores go, my best so far was 32-12 on Caen last week. On average I get either an even score or slightly more kills than deaths, but its a team game so I'm not that bothered as long as we're winning

i much prefer 12 man cs servers meself,but as you say they seem to be empty on bw a bit lately.which is odd considering the jolt ones are packed....
im looking forward to v2.0 ,hope theres some new maps and stuff,also maybe get the models looking a bit better.

The BW used to have no class limits(they do now i think), so you could play dod_valley, and everyone on the server was playing sniper. Was as boring as hell, and that map was efected the most. Everyone started to blame the map, so its no longer played, which is stupid. If it was played with class limits it would be alot better.

The best map is the beach map that isn't omaha. I cant spell it, but it's something like 'dod_v692'. Class map, if the Allies work together, they can own the Axis.

Weird...

In CS I'm shit. No question. If I kill anyone they're lucky shots. Most of the time I'm killed by someone who still appears to be round a corner. Always finish a game with deaths about twice the number of kills.

On DoD I'm not half bad. Mostly go for the rifle peeps on either side (even though the Axis rifle has a major disadvantage) and am usually in the top three scorers on the board. Not bragging or anything, just seems that DoD is much more my sort of game.

Haven't bothered to buy RtCW yet cos this game is soooo gooood...
