Tax on Chocolate

This will never work, it'll just make chocolate more expensive. This is just another example of someone completely failing to address the root cause of obesity in this country.

I agree, lets tax playstations and x boxes then, considering they are the root of obesity

You cannot just beat on chocolate as a whole...
infact thats just plain old preaty damned stupid.

f.exp dark has alot of health benifits
keep away from milk chocolate and stay over 60% and use in moderation, and you'll find it's actually very benaficial to your health.

i really hope thats some kind of "The Sun" News source

60% chocolate is mean, but nice in small doses.. Nothing beats a twix/kitkat/snickers/swiss chocolate though.

Yeah. Thats the point. :m00: If chocolate is more expensive, people will buy less of it.

I think its an excellent idea. Only it shouldnt be just about chocolate but all unhealthy products. Treating obesity related illnesses takes a huge chunk of your tax money so those who insist on getting fat should pay for their own health bills. Not to mention it just might make them buy apples instead.

Yet, some families will still give their kids chocolate/sweets when ever they want it. I mean, fuck, I've gained summit like 2 stone over the last few months from eating (willingly, and knowing the effects) pretty much crap, kids don't know this, and parents want to make their kids happy.

Obeasity won't go away, it'll get worse. [Doom etc] Taxing won't help, worst is a 4-10p increase on everything, and you can find that change on most floors.

I don't meant to be rude but bollocks. Alcohol in pubs has been getting more and more expensive for years but it doesn't stop people going out every weekend and getting twatted. Also, people buying less chocolate will make no difference because it's only a contributing factor. the root cause of obesity (Barring legitimate medical reasons) is simply that people are too lazy to get off their asses and get some exercise.

Education, really? Unhealthy foods have been around for a lot longer than knowledge that they're really bad for you so how do you explain that before the last decade or so obesity wasn't a problem? I can explain it, people were physically active, they got exercise and burned off the extra calories and fats in the food they ate.

So by taxing unhealthy foods obesity will get worse? Id really like to hear the reasoning behind this.

The more expensive a product is, the less people buy it. If the change is not visible then the tax is not big enough. But denying the basic logic behind that is like denying gravity.

Also, the main reason for obesity is eating habbits. Not the lack of excersise. Excersise helps but eating right is the key. An hour of jogging consumes 500-1000 kcalories depending on your weight. 100g of chocolate is 550 kcal.

Are you retarded? I gave a perfect example of why raising prices makes no difference right there. And as for eating habits, crap. People eat no more or less than they did 30 years ago and while I admit that WHAT we eat these days is a serious contributing factor the fact remains that lack of exercise in today's society is the MAJOR reason for the explosion in obesity.

And i explained why it makes no difference. The tax increase wasnt big enough.

A normal human being can barely burn the amount of calories that you get from 100g of chocolate with excercise. You have to excersice an hour for every 100g of chocolate you eat. That alone should prove that while excersice helps, its not the answer. If you dont pay attention to what you eat, you can easily eat several thousand calories more than you consume. Some people (thin people) dont have to think about it but some do. And if they dont, they get fat because everywhere you go theres unhealthy food these days.

And why the hell are you calling me a retard for disputing your point? Twat.. :p

Gorb, while i think you'll just ignore this;

Why would you punish other people for some peoples obesity?

I don't eat too much chocolate, but because SOME people are eating too much of it, i'd have to pay for it?

Doesn't work.

That's like telling me i have to pay 300 bucks for a bottle of beer because some people are alcoholics.

Would you agree to that?

-le sigh- I knew you were going to say that. Classic know-it-all thing to do. The whole point of agreeing to disagree is that both parties think they're right and neither will change the opinion of the other. I was simply heading off a lengthy back and forth of "I'm right! No I'm right!"

See heres the beauty of it. You'll benefit from it financially. The taxes the government gets from chocolate dont have to come from you. The fatties pay more, and rightfully so because they are the biggest burden to our healthcare system. And since you save in tax cuts, you'll get your money back and more.

The lengthy back and forth "im right" situation only occurs when people dont know how to admit that they are wrong or dont do what you just did. So congratz, you chose the second best option. Thats an achievement on this forum.

I was right in asking. You ARE retarded. I think I'm right, you think you're right and neither of us is willing to concede the others point. Therefore I forstalled further argument by refusing to take part. In no part of my previous posts have I implied that you're right and I'm wrong. Still, if you're egotistical enough to read it that way more power to you.

I see the point of taxes bringing me more money, but i prefer to have a chocolate bar every now and then for little more then nothing and not have to save up for a month to buy one bar.

And modern day, smoking, drinking, eating unhealthy, none of them effect your medical bill. The government would tax me the same, and tax returns would stay the same too. You really think the government would lower general taxes if they got more money from chocolate due to a fat clause?

So the positive side would be that there'd come more money from chocolate taxes, but i wouldn't get any of it and i would have to give up my citizen right to eat chocolate.

These days, even if i had just a little bit of money, i can buy a chocolate bar and rejoice. If it became too taxed to make an effect, i'd have to wait for payday to do so.

Same with MacDonalds, i wouldn't be able to grab a cheap burger on the way home from the pub. A: because drinks would cost so much due to alcoholics and B: because fatties removed my cheap burgers.

Like i said, would you agree to pay for every vice humanity has, say double price?

Oh and Access, thank you very very kindly :D
