Anyway, back on topic. As I always say, people are entitled to their own opinions indeed. My personal opinion is that trance music is largely uninspiring to me. I know that millions of people love it; fair play to them - I admire people that are passionate about something.
Marc mentioned he felt more threatened at rock gigs. Well, that's mainly because you won't share many stereotypes with the people that go to rock concerts...just like I won't share many stereotypes with those who listen to trance.
Like whatever you like, as long as you appreciate everyone's entitled to their own interests, I guess.

Marc said:Not really threatened, I just thought there was a lot of tension in the air, why I dont know. I felt more threatened when I went to glastonbury. Yardies robbing people at knife point was fun fun fun :/ But I guess that was the exception, rather than the rule?
See, that's kind of surprising to me...I've been to many a death metal gig and never felt any tension or threat level at all. OK, I fit in visually at one - I'm fairly large and have the requisite hair etc - but having played and attended many, many gigs of different types of music in my time I've usually found that extreme metal gigs are by and large very tolerant types of affairs. Yes, the mosh pit is violent, but it's meant to be - it's a form of music in which you get all your aggression out in the music itself, and as a result people are generally chilled out themselves. You feel invigorated after a death/black metal gig, not inspired to go beat someone up; all your beating-something-up energy has been creatively dispelled by the sheer intensity of the music itself. I've come out of mosh pits covered in bruises but with a huge grin on my face, echoes by the faces of all those around me. Get in the pit and you'll see everyone looking out for everyone else; if someone goes down on the flooor, the nearest 5 people will immediately be helping them up and making sure they're OK. I don't know what metal clubs/gigs you've been to, Marc, but I'd suggest - from the experience of someone who's lived and breathed metal for years - that if you felt threatened, they were not at all representative of the metal crowd as whole.Marc said:There is a huge misconception about trance clubs, people think they are just full of chavs, off their heads looking for trouble. This just isnt true at all. In fact, the clubs I have always felt most threatened at are the clubs that play heavy metal or at music festivals. At places like Gatecrasher there is no animosity at all, just people wanting to have a good time and enjoy their chosen choice of music.
Got to disagree with you there. It's usually the R+B/drum'n'bass disco pop set decrying anything different. The music they listen to is so conformist and brain-dead, they're mentally strait-jacketed after a while and can't think out of the box at all. Metalheads really are tolerant most of the time, so are goths and industrial types.Gamah said:But it's always the "metalers/punks" (the ones that preach individuality) who flame anything that is different to what they like.

Oh, absolutely. When I first moved to Nottingham and just need a job, any job, I worked briefly in a bar. Fucking awful job, especially for someone who hates smoking like I do. Aaaanyway...they were playing the usual disco pop shit, then suddenly 'In The End' by Linkin Park comes on and the whole place livens up, everyone singing or whatever, then soon as it went back to the disco pop shit it died down again. Was like someone flicking a 'Happy People' switch on and off.Vladamir said:Agree with this entirely. Though it's ironic. People never give a second thought to poking fun at the indy/rock type of music. Though i was at a student night at a club recently and they played 30 minutes of the above mentioned music. For those 30 minutes the dance floor was absolutely packed and there wasn't that many people jumping around for the entire night.
As soon as it went back to the R+B, Shit Hop and so on, the dance floor emptied![]()

Marc said:Whilst not a big lover of it anymore, back in the day I was nuts for my trance. I remember buying the first trance nation on CD and being amazed that all my favourite tunes from the clubs were on it. Would live for weekend, for gatecrasher, wigan pier, monroes, valentes, cream and on the odd occasion, funds permitting, Ministry. Yes, there is a large contingent of drug takers at these clubs, but this is no different to any genre of music played in clubs. Being "off ones head" makes you enjoy the music better, makes it more intense and you lose yourself in it. You cant beat the feeling of your favourite choon comming on, just as you come up, strobe lights flashing, 2000 people off it and dancing, feet going at 200bpm and im sure Gamah will agree.
