I was just thinking of the old arguments about the old mouse.

I use inverted mouse and my argument is that its the same controls as when flying a plane, push forward to nose dive.

Then I got thinking, in a 2D environment (Windows) I don't use it inverted, who does that would just be silly. (Is there an invert mouse option in Windows? I'm too lazy to look.)

So whats your for / against argument and what do you use? :p

I don't use Inverted mouse. For me having the controls inverted only is necessary with a Joystick on a Flight Sim or something.

I tried Inverted mouse many many many years ago and it definitely wasn't right. Some people think that way and need it, but most don't I find.

Hmm interesting - never thought of it in those terms but 'inverted' is kinda freaky so I don't use it.

i use inverted, no idea why. have done since i started using mouse + kb for quake2, it felt wrong non-inverted so switched.

personally i think it's because i'm cool. the fact throd also uses inverted only serves to support this point.

Small problem with the plane theory is - FPS gaming isn't flying a plane, it's not the same!!

Its like pushing the head around, you push forward and you look down, you tilt back and you look up.

FPS = inverted, nonfps = noninverted.

I dont do flight sims so it doesnt matter.

I used to use inverted. Why? Well, as per the OP I thought of it in terms of flying a plane, as that's the kind of thing I did a lot in computer games for many years.

Then I switched to non-inverted as I was almost exclusively playing FPS, and in those it really amounts to an equivalent of "move the mouse pointer onto the target" (just the mouse pointer, i.e. the crosshairs, stays still in most games and it's the view that moves instead). It's MUCH easier to play FPS without inverting the mouse when you're mostly worried about good, rapid and accurate aiming.

And, yes, given the game where I made the switch was BF2, it did make things interesting when hopping in a plane or chopper, but it only took a day or so to get used to non-inverted for that aspect of the game.

I use inverted Y-axis for console games, and regular for PC gaming. It just seems to be the way my brain works.

I dont play console much anymore, but when I used to I used to have inverted Y-axis in GoldenEye and the few other games I played.

I dont use inverted mouse except for flying. This stems back to when games started using the mouse+keyboard, the first one of these I played was half life I think. Before that games like spear of destiny and wargasm had keyboard look, I used to have it set up (for example) cursor key up = look up, cursor key down = look down (with wasd for movement). Because of this I just got into the habit of thinking of 'up' as 'up', instead of 'up' as 'forward'. So when I started playing half life, it just felt right to have the mouse moving forward as looking up.

In flightsims I tend to use keyboard so mouse invert isnt an issue.

Inverted mouse = pants. The only time I can use anything inverted, is if I have an analog joypad or indeed a joystick to shoot some Kilrathi in Heart Of The Tiger. :)

I use inverted because it feels natural - if I pull my right arm (which I use my mouse with too) down while aiming with shotgun I'll aim higher :p

Actually. I find that people who've been playing computer games for years (like, the VIC 20 was their starting machine) are the ones who reverse it. I only know one person who doesn't - and he's much younger than me.

Inverted mouse just feels much more natural when flying aircraft in games/flight simulators.

I only use a joystick for flying, normal mouse for running around. I do think that people who don't do flight controls the right way round, ie push forward = nose down, are total head-wrongs though.

I play with my mouse inverted as its easier to push forwards accurrately for rocket jumping in FPSs like Quake etc.

Then again for moving Ive always used Q & E for strafe left and right as your fungers rest there naturally whereas most games set up A & D where you have to bend them... so I guess its what you're used to.

I used to use that but I find it is easier to move your middle finger between w and s using wsad ...
