If you believe in eternity then life is irrelevant.

Unless this life is a test for you, to see if you are deemed worthy for eternal life. In which case, it wouldn't be irrelevant, but as relevant as can be.

Though, if there is no afterlife, noone would ever know either.

I dont really get how any person with a belief in science can believe that when you die you somehow get transfered into another life form and all that. Just seems silly.

This has been gone over and over. Take it from me there ain't no after life. This is it. This is all you get. After this there is nothing but oblivion. Personally when my time comes to peg out oblivion sounds just fine. What are lot wondering about? Something you failed to do this time around? Hell most of you are nothing but children. For godsake when your time comes make sure you have as few regrets as possible. Do what ever is on your mind now. Death is peace and rest. Think of it that way.

Am on the sherry now and tired - so tired. Anything could spout forth!

Once a King always a King. Thugs can move smoothly from one part of this forum to another. I noticed this section went quiet for quite a while there. Thugs still has it for sure. You want a poem?

Always been the case though. Does Thugs really mean it or not? Amongst all you lot of intellectuals this is quite something. Thugs ain't met his match in the game or on these forums. Makes Thugs feel soooooo goooooood. Hell the guy playing the blues through these headphones sure is good too. Music is where it is at me thinks!

I dunno. This topic kinda gets to me. Am absolutely - 100% certain that this life is all you get. Religion - total bollucks. Reason why people are able to live together - rules and regulations which can even be misguidedly construed as morals. You put 10,000 people in a small area and they will eventually live an ordered life. They will create rules. These rules are what all live by. Rules that override our basic 'kill whoever is in our space' instincts. Why is it so hard for people to realize that what you see is all you get - WYSIAYG? Feck sake! Religion is nothing but a - what the hell is that pill called? Para something.

Have to ask, if you believe there's nothing after this, and you say religion is useless, why do you want to take it away from people?

Even if you were right, and there was nothing, why would you care, as you obviously do, if other people didn't share your opinion and want to believe in an afterlife?

Also have to ask, on what grounds you can say that you can be 100% sure? Nothing is 100% sure unless it's proven, seen by yourself or just is(probably 'cause it's been proven).

And, since i'm on a bit of a writing/quetioning mood, if you believe in the "what you see is what you get" rule, wouldn't that make dreaming or aspiring a waste of your time? Shouldn't it be "what you get is what you get"? Especially since you odn't get what you see.

Who said I wanted to take something away from whoever? Believe what you will. Don't though live your life in the belief that whatever you fail to realize in this one you will make up for in the next. Hate to say this but I know I am right with regard to religion. Absolute ballocks. Live this life to the full. If you think to yourself that this is the only chance you get then you will try harder. I know this is all you get. Who told me? Common sense. Something a lot of religious types lack as they are well off in their own worlds where reasoning don't exist. One must keep ones feet firmly on the ground at all times. Unless drunk that is. Religion? - sober or drunk - a real joke!

Placebo?

If the afterlife is so good and you all 100% believe in it, why then haven't you all jumped of bridges or overdosed in order to experince it quicker.

I knew that (well kinda). Placebo. That was the word. So if any of you decide to end it all to experience Nirvana (think that is the place) sooner than you should have well Mey put the idea in your head rather than me.

You are trying to be rather "convincing" in telling people what they believe is bollocks, that they should concentrate on this life and forget their religion. That's why you're essentially trying to take it away. Just live your own life and let other live theirs. That's the only thing you need to know about life.

Still wondering what teh 100% common sense reason is that there CAN'T be an afterlife or a deity up there. There is no 100% proof, either way. Your reasoning so far has been "'cause i said so!"

About "Why not end your life and go there?", well, there's things holding me here. Friends, family, other people i don't want to leave just yet. Heck, i'm having fun here, why leave as it's free time.

If death came today, i wouldn't mind, others would. I've been ready for the next step since i was 12, always have been. DOESN'T MEAN i want to die, just that i don't fear it, try to avoid it(well, overprotection that is) or think about it.

I personally will see when I get there.

If you believe there is nothing, you cannot then say "well your way of thinking is bollocks, you must worship my way or die"

Its like extremism :/

I believe people can believe what they want

I don't beleive there is an afterlife... I beleive that when you die... you are dead... nothing happens.

However, I would like to beleive in reincarnation as it sounds like a nice idea. But in reality no I don't beleive in it.

Then surely if you believe people can believe what they want then he should be able to believe that his way is 100% right and everyone else should believe him. So in effect your an extremist also.

When you sleep in deep sleep you are unaware you are sleep correct? This is most probably what death is like. You neither know nor care that you are dead, your simply dead.

People have the right, ofcourse, to believe that there's nothing and claim that they know this for 100% certainty, but everyone else shouldn't believe it, if they choose not to believe it. I can believe he, personally, believes in it a 100%, but as i stated, it can't be said with a 100% certainty that there is/isn't an afterlife.

Extremist is someone who claims a 100%, no doubt, that his way is the right way and everything else is bollocks and won't listen to a word otherwise.

About dreams, it's not that clear cut. I for one, many times a month, manage to go into a lucid dream sequence where i know i'm asleep and dreaming, and can do anything i want. Marvelous experience also.

No, I accept that other people have different beliefs to me.

Extremism would be if I demanded everyone in this world all followed my beliefs etc.

Im not bothered what people believe in, as long as it does not interfere with me in any serious way or its insane(like being blown up with a bomb strapped to your back will get you 70 virgins in heaven, which is stupid because who want 70 girls that havent a clue what to do with a cock? Just give me 5 real sluts and id be happy!)

Shows strength of mind. Hopefully I will be just as strong mentally when my time comes. Others will be reaching for a life line, anything to help them on their way.

Funny thing I nearly always argue in such a manner and forcefully. I can be talked out of my ideas though. I find being forceful generates a degree of animosity and forces a response more often than not. Nearly always find arguments or debates funny for some reason though. Especially if the other gets a little heated and flustered.

One thing I would never do - cept on this forum - is to change anyone's religious beliefs. Do far more harm than good. People latch on to religion for obscure reasons and some are very much related to their supposedly healthy mental constitutions. Remove the religion and you underpin their hold on reality. Why bother. Better for them to have misguided beliefs and be happy than none and unhappy. Each to their own.

Just to know what i'm answering to :D

Your strength of mind can be compared to that of a believer. Same thing, you are(possibly, never know until it's time) cool, collected, know what's coming(or there lack of) and have accepted it.

Same goes with a religious person. They know what coming, and that's that. Why be afraid of death, lets say as a christian, if you know you're going to heaven? Two sides of a coin really.

The last part of your post did strike a cord a bit, not in an angered manner, but something i feel i should point out. I'm talking about:

"Better for them to have misguided beliefs and be happy than none and unhappy."

If you compare your answers to mine, you'll notice that i never(hopefully) judged that your way is wrong, misguided or "looney". You on the other hand, almost in every post, claim other people are misguided and "dumb"(not your word, but the hint is there) for believing in something else. If you truly believe everyone can and should believe in what they wish, why the need to insult it? Or is that the same as your middle paragraph said, to get a response and anger the other?

Oh, I believe all that I said. This is a forum though, a faceless forum, and a lot of stuff is written that is nonsensical. Forums I find are carthartic really. You let fly with outrageous statements and ideas without holding back, unless you are likely to get banned that is, and it makes you feel good. Does me anyways. You won't get in trouble normally bar for aforementioned banning. When someone knocks on the door handing out leaflets etc I just humour them and shoot off as fast as possible.

I honestly believe that religion is utter nonsense though. By this I mean God etc. Religious practices are another thing. These are rules are regulations written out of necessity. Common sense values that can help a person live a happier life. That really is why similar values are practiced and believed in lots of societies even though their idea of a god and the after life are totally different.

So, from your answer i gather, you insult believers just to get a reaction/anger them?

All i was asking is why the need to insult the believers when the believers don't insult your way of life?

Not really. It bugs me that they are basing their arguments on nothing but what exactly? Zilch really. Hearsay - hallucinations - imagination - nothing at all that can be substantiated. Not one thing. Surely after all this time something positive would have come to light.

If I choose to follow anything I think I would rather shoot off and practice Buddhism or something. Living on a bowl of rich once a fortnight - meditating up the nearest palm tree - mocking material possessions - and happy as Larry. Also you get to come back as your favorite animal or something. Now that is a religion or philosophy worth taking up.

Unfortunately a minority of Muslims do insult my way of life. They insult life full stop by pulling this suicide killing horse shit :) They then try and justify it by saying our ways are wrong yet they are quite happy to live amongst us. So I have no problems insulting them back.

But isn't that true with not believing also? There's nothing to base the belief, that there is nothing, on either :D

Still didn't quite get the answer on "why insult something and then say it's ok" though, maybe i'm asking it wrong...

Well having read my posts over again incase I had answered more aggressively than normal as I did have quite a bit to drink one night I haven't directly insulted anyone. All I have done is been very passionate in stating my own beliefs. Can't really see where I have directly insulted anyone. I don't work like that. I have though insulted an idea. I think this is fine in the context of the forum topic. Just slagged off a general idea and not a particular belief held by anyone. The whole idea of a God and an Afterlife is nonsensical to me.

Also changing my mind and saying it is 'ok' after? Well if you test the waters by throwing someone in and then realize they can't swim what should you do? Exactly, throw them a lifeline or dive in and save them. Pretty obvious really. As I said previously some people are far better off believing in religion than not.

Well yes i didn't mean "you bastard called someone names and insulted this and that religion".

But it's like, if you say "all chinese are dumb for being chinese"(not to be taken THAT literally as an example), you bet some chinese would take some offense from it.

I'm not accusing you of being a piggot or religion hater, was just curious on the aggressive nature of defending your view via saying other views are "dumb".
