Do you believe in ghosts?

I've just had a discussion with some friends who has said they've experienced ghosts up close and personal, and I've had some doubting experiences myself, so I'm asking you this.

Do you believe in ghosts?

If you do, feel free to tell about your experiences or why you believe in such a thing.

I was in an old house quite a few years ago where I know that it was only me and a friend who was there.

I heard noises upstairs, noises which sounded like someone walking and then a door opening and then some sounds of a person walking down the stairs.

We rushed to the stairs and noted that there were nobody there, and we hadn't heard anyone move away.

So obviously we went upstairs to see if someone was fooling us, and after searching through it all we found nobody.

That day we continued watching the tv as if nothing had happened, though it was fairly creepy.

I'm quite confident in saying that I'm not sure if that was a ghost, but I will not say that they don't exist as I know for sure there are something which can't be explained.

But I kind of doubt them.

Why would I want to flame you?

I said I was unsure of what it was, I'm not saying ghosts exists, but it was freaky.

But there are lots of reasons, many psychological like the way our visual system makes up faces and images of people from random patterns, how the mind can play tricks. Ive seen some reasearch about how magnetic fields caused by the material and structure of buildings such can stimulate the part of the mind that is associated with percieving things like ghosts and feelings of spirtiuality etc. I dont think that the many people who think they have seen ghosts are lying, they have just jumped to the easiest conclusion about what their senses told them was there.

never experienced one, heard stories about people experiencing things, wont rule it out as its not been proven yet.

think its a nice thing to wonder about, the idea of strange stuff like that is interesting to me so I prefer to leave my mind open to it than to debunk it.

Well ghosts are apparations of the death and paranormal activity is unusual activity - not explainable by normal scientific means.

IMO anyway.

Okay, if you want a story then I do have some thing which was odd. Whether it was a ghost or not I have no idea, but it was kind of strange and happened back when I was young. I had been spending a lot of time in my room playing on games when I needed a drink. I shut my door as I left and came down the stairs and spent a few minutes with my parents before I went back upstairs. I opened my door and curled up on my bed was a black cat. It looked up at me, jumped off the bed and down the stairs before disappearing. Now I admit that at the time we had two jet black cats, but both of them were not in the house and even if they were neither of them were the type to curl up on my bed.

A few years later my mother saw some thing very similar, a black cat padding along our hallway. However the main difference with that one was by that time both of the black cats in our household had long since died.

Again, I am not saying that it was a ghost and I don't really have any belief in ghosts. My idea is that, ignoring boni's very good and reasoned comments (which might be the case with my "experience"). I like my theory that it could be possible that a "ghost" is a vision in to an alternate reality. Again, nothing to back up my theory. When it comes to things like that though there are most likely 1,001 different explanations.

Heh. Nowhere near the back door though. It was late at night and thusly all doors were shut. People asked for strange happenings and at the time it seemed very strange and that's all I am saying about it. *shrugs* Not saying it was a ghost of a cat, but when you're a kid it's kind of freaky.

Dunno, I like ghost stories and I would really like to believe them, but it's as simple as it get: I have never experience any ghost or strange encounters nor have I ever seen hard proof that they exist, so No, I don't believe in ghosts.

My cousin just recentely told me a story about some strange stuff happening in his house lately. One day he was walking in his hallway when he felt someone pulling his shirt from behind. He turned arround, saw no one and asked his girlfriend why she pulled his shirt. She said she was not even near the hallway, she was in kitchen.

The the nextday, they invited some friends over and they hang a x-mas ball in their tree, his girlfriend put a ball in the middle of the tree, turned to her friend and said: hey, I've put yours in the middle of the tree, when she turned arround to show her the ball, it was no where to be found and she was obsuletely a 100% convinced that she put it there.

These stories are nothing special and they were joking about it that there were ghosts in their house, but they still found it kinda creepy anyway.

I have another story of a mate who experienced some weird the past 4 days after he "called up ghosts" with friends. Nothing spectacular actually happened during their session, but the following 4 morning he always wook with a sensation of beeing totaly paralised, unable to breath and a sight of a face floating above him just before he could actually wake up.

Now, I always found his experience very creepy, especially that this guy is maybe the most down to earth guy ever (doesn't believe in anything at all and you couldn't scare him, if you were dressed as Freddy Cruger in the middle of the night all alone in the forest).

I have been have experience the sensation of not been able to move or breath just before waking up myself a few times. After some googling I found that this is caused by sleep-paralizes, it can happen to anyone and is proved to be the number 1 explanation of so called abductions or ghostely encounters.

Aldough I don't believe in ghosts, I actually am in scary state of mind atm while reading and writing about this stuff in my room at this of the time. I actually looked behind me a couple of times while typing this. But that's just me having a very overeactive imagination. I can really give my self the creeps, which is the most stupidest thing ever.

I dont believe in ghosts but i believe in many of the theories that relate to Quantun(sp) Physics, and thus explains why many of u believe in ghosts, when many factors that could lead you to believing in ghosts are actually many of the laws of science taking effect.
