It arrived on tuesday, when they said it would come... i was checking the balance on the credit card online, nothing... ten minutes later my mum asked if i'd checked it, said yes... nothing on there... "what was the balance?" "shit, don't remember" went back to the site to look, and lo and behold, it appears on the statement... literally 10 minutes later the doorbell rang, and there the delivery guy was.

Anyway.

the reason i was harping about hyperthreading performance is because it really does make a difference in windows when you're running a couple of intensive applications. well nice.

TFT is fine, no dead pixels, superbly sharp with the dvi cable, and no ghosting whatsoever - perfect for gaming... installed tons of stuff on it so far.. unreal II and unreal tournament, warcraft III, C & C generals... etc
every single thing on max settings, and it gives superb performance...

i suppose you're all getting bored now?

Thinking of getting a decent 17" one myself soon, and want one that's good for gaming as well...

Dell 1800FP

it's basically a re-badged LG Electronics 1810/1811
30ms response time, superb viewing angles etc

well, allegedly it's 30ms, i think it's less, it could be their new panel, it's hard to tell with dell re-badges.

the thing's superb though, perfect for gaming... and don't get me wrong, at the price i paid for this pc, i fully budgeted for the fact the tft might be shit and was ready to buy another - and i'd still have saved money over the competition (the pc was £700 cheaper than the nearest competition from evesham, and £1500 cheaper than the competition from Alienware)

i'd thoroughly recommend one.

Dell always seem to have good tft's too... there are hundreds in work, and not a single one has even a single dead sub-pixel (work won't accept even their normal acceptable fault level of 1 broken pixel)

have a look at the 17" LG 1710, it's the same panel, but in a rancid looking silver, with 16ms response time
(the dell is a nice carbon grey)

other choices

the main panels you want to be looking at to be honest are Samsung's, LG's, and Sony's - Eizo and Lacie panels are very nice for graphcis/colour work, but are poor for gaming, and other one's just don't have the experience the big three have (LG and samsung are the two largest LCD manufacturers there are, LG make the lcd's for apple)

Just a word of support for the God Dell TFTs are sexy and cheap crew.
