Detached Retina

mmMMmm only 17 and I had an operation to fix a detached retina last week (of unknown origin). The problem is they have given me some drops (Antropine Sulphate for those who care).

Fear the list of possible side effects:

Ophthalmic
Incidence common: Blurred vision.
Incidence less frequent to rare: Conjuctival irritation, follicular conjunctivitis, increased intraocular pressure (especially in patients with closed-angle glaucoma), increased sensitivity to light, swelling of eyelids.
Systemic toxicity may occur in susceptible patients, particularly children. Such effects include:

Gastrointestinal
Incidence less frequent to rare: Dryness of the mouth with difficulty in swallowing or talking, thirst, abdominal distention in infants.

Respiratory
Incidence less frequent to rare: Reduced bronchial secretions, respiratory depression.

Dermatological
Incidence less frequent to rare: Flushing and dryness of the skin, rash, dermatitis.

Cardiovascular
Incidence less frequent to rare: Rapid and irregular pulse, hyperaemia, cardiac arrhythmias, hypotension.

Neurological
Incidence less frequent to rare: Fever, clumsiness or unsteadiness, confusion or unusual behaviour, dizziness, hallucinations, slurred speech, unusual drowsiness, tiredness or weakness.

Musculoskeletal
Incidence less frequent to rare: Loss of neuromuscular co-ordination, oedema.

So this morning I end up wandering around safeways unable to keep either of my eyes open due to being dazed by the lights which suddenly seem really bright. I start feeling dizzy and light headed and I cant walk in a straight line. Nearly trip over the trolley and all . . nice considering that the drops blatently do nothing useful. (their actual effect is to dilate the pupil and stop it from focusing which seems pointless to me when the part of my eye which was fixed has nothing to do with it).

Damn the eye! *lays down in dark room*

playing cs with 1 eye is pretty fun though :)

Has anyone got any practical or humerous solutions to getting dazed by light :) *sunglasses dont count I need glasses to see anything and i aint allowed to wear contacts atm*

Look on the bright side, at least the list of side effects doesn't include Erectile Dysfunction, also known as impotence :).

A very close friend of mine had exactly the same thing! She had a very swolen and red eye for a while and had to wear sunglasses, but it went down very quickly. Now, a few weeks later she's fine. No sign of any problems, no discomfort and no impaired vision.

If I were you I wouldn't worry about it. Take it easy and know that it will just fade away.

Obviously it's bad and everything but ...

How can its origins be unknown? You know it's from your eye!

I had an operation in November to correct a squint (hereditary double vision). Bloody painful I can tell you, although the extremely bloodshot eye was quite cool.

Wasn't very nice though, being conscious after the op, and having them pull my eyeball around while they adjusted the stitches. Strange feeling that.

remember being skiing once and lost my goggles. Skied for the rest of the day no worries.

Got to later on and it felt as if someone had taped back my eyelids and setabout my eyeballs with handfuls of sand, rubbing back and forward.

Vision was blurred and it hurt like a bitch.

Had to go and get drunk to dull the pain.

When you go skiing you dont need to find an excuse to go and get drunk...especially a stupid one like that! :D

Come to think of it you dont need an excuse to get drunk at any time really...
