True that report is a load of bollocks, a blank fired at point-blank range to the temple would still very likely kill a man, so any police officer saying they wouldn't let anyone be at risk and then say it was a blank is a complete twat or talking utter bollocks to get in the papers.

I'd not know tbh. I've fired a gun exactly once in my life and all I can remember was that it made a very loud noise and a hole appeared at teh edge of the target.
I've always imagined that a blank is a bullet without the pointy bit. Just expanding gasses and noise in other words. Thusly, if he'd fired a blank with the gun pressed against his temple he'd have seriously hurt himself.
