Why dont you just go the "Bottom" way?

Get a long piece of String, tie one end to the door knob, and the other end to your Tooth..

Close Eyes and tell Samm about all the naughty things you done.. so she slams the door!

Dammit, man! Have you never seen Cast Away? Do you want to have to remove your tooth with the blade of an ice-skate?

Did it hurt though Bids?

Not while he was doing it - just the grinding sensation that is really weird. Make sure you top-up on Nurofen though - once the Novacaine wears off it don't half hum :(
For bed time, I found alcohol induced sleep helped (sans Nurofen of course).

Oh - and definitely DON'T leave it - the dentist chappy told me that an infected tooth can feck up neighbouring teeth, and possibly jaw problems if left for long periods (i.e. months)- then you'll have multiple teeth-pully sessions :(

If it didn't hurt while he was doing it then I feel better, the pain after is not a problem.

it won't hurt while he's doing it mate. I was dead for a week after I had a double wisdomtooth extract though. that was not good.

I also had 2 wisdom teeth extracted. I opted for the general aenesthetic(sp) as the teeth roots were quite deep.

I was in agony for 2 days afterwards!! The doctor gave me the strogest pain killers he was allowed to dispense and they didnt help much....they did help me to pass out though!

I had to "eat" liquid food for about 4 days. I even had problem drinking things through a straw.

Its something I never want to go through again!!

Well to put it all in perspective - Samm is booked in to have her bottom two wisdom teeth out in three weeks time, apparently they have to remove a bit of her jaw bone in the process, she had her top wisdom teeth out a couple of years back and when she walked out of the surgery she was laughing(sedation you see). A bloke I know(Bill) is going into hospital tomorrow to have a sist removed from his brain, it could possibly kill him, he isn't bothered, or if he is he isn't showing it.

Makes me wonder what the fuck is wrong with me, I gotta man up ffs!!!

If you have to have an injection in the roof of your mouth, shit your pants...

Injection there = pretty much the most painful thing i've ever experienced :(

Trem, you need to examine the posts here, whilst they detail the horror stories the common detail is that minimal pain was felt during the actual operation.

Sure, you hurt like bugger afterwards, but then you'd hurt like bugger if you got nothing done either. You hurt because of bruising and the incisions made, but they always heal up eventually, in short it is no more than a beating or bad sports injury.

The only time a dental operation really got to me was having a crown put on one of my back teeth, this was purely for convienience reasons too, to close a gap with the nearby tooth and stop food getting stuck in it all the time.

If you don't know already, the process of putting on a crown is to grind down the tooth by a few millimeters so that a cover can be cemented on over the top, however, they have to grind first, then make a mould and then make the crown, this can take up to two weeks during which time you have a temporary crown that never seems to completely cover the tooth, so you have an "exposed" unenamelled tooth.

Have you ever experienced the sudden pain when a bad tooth is exposed to cold water, or a metal filling contacts something like tin foil ? This is the same but hundreds of times worse, and I had to live with it for two weeks.

In most cases the tooth being destroyed is normally rotten anyway, in my case it was a perfectly healthy tooth, all of which made it seem like madness, and it was not cheap either :(

Tremor, fear not me old chum.

The injection is just uncomfortable and the extraction makes a crunching sound but there is no pain.

You will swallow some blood which will make you a bit ill.

I can send you co-dydramol for the aftermath pain.....TAKE TEH PAIN KILLERS.

I was taking co-dydramol for my broken shoulder and it worked wonders :)

Nice opiate based painkillers are sweet.

Seriously, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GIVE TREMOR DRUGS OF ANY KIND!!

Go to your medicine cabinet.

Take out the strongest tablets you have in there.

Read the side effects bit.

TREMOR IS LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME!!!

Woah horror stories all round ;)

Tremor, I can tell you, that it is perfectly natural to be shit scared of the dentist. Most people are as you can tell from the above stories, it is unnatural to have someone poking around in your mouth (for a man at least ;) ) and is nearly always associated with pain of some kind.

I am actually shit scared of injections, any injections. On several occasions I have even passed out during the injection. I remember once in my younger days the dentist was going to take an overgrowing tooth out at the front, he laid me back started the injection and the next thing I knew I was laying on his couch with legs raised and he had the white pastey faced look I had before I went in :)

I have also gone years without going to the dentist, including having a broken tooth for 3 years before the pain got so bad I had to go. It turned out the rotted tooth had also infected the tooth next to it, and so I had to have both roots removed, the decay drilled out and crowns to replace them, on top of this I also needed 6 other fillings. That involved 8 trips to the dentist and alot of work...all for someone who hates the dentist and hates injections even more.

It gave me alot of sleepless nights and worry, but I forced my way through it, and at the end of all the treatment I can guarentee you the most painful part was paying for it :D

Thanks for that Johnny, that has helped me..........a little.

The worst thing yesterday was that, as you know I went to get their phone number, "the dentist wants a word with you" says the receptionist, "ok" says I, so I go into his room of torment and he says "sit down", "in which chair" I say, "THE chair" he says, I was like "I just wanted your number". Anyway he sits me down saying he just wants to talk to me and then he whizzes the chair backwards to have a look, then he tries to inject me to get me over the fear of it, I fucking squirmed like a bastard before he let me leave untouched.

I feel that didn't help me:(

Trem. I've had 4 adult teeth removed under local. 2 baby under local. and another 4 baby under full.

it doesnt hurt much. it all seems daunting with the big fuck off needle and the pliers to rip out the tooth. but its not. local works wonders, though you may feel a sharp pain when they pull it out (somethign to do with the roots methinks)

the most annoying part is the bit after. have to keep a plug inplace to stop blood coming our (doesnt work very well). had to keep running off to the toilets in sainsburys every five minutes to spit out the blood (i was shopping right after it)

your whole side of the mouth goes numb. thus you have no idea if you've bitten apart the side of your cheek, if theres any blood dribbling out of your mouth etc.

afterwards is fun tho. many fun filled hours poking that new gap in your teeth.

(oh yes. and try not to touch the needle with your tounge. i touched the side by mistake and my tounge went numb :( )

i prefer total btw. fun coming out of it and you start to go psycho. nice nurse has to try and hold you down :D

The best bit is giving someone a cup of coffee while the local is wearing off.

Have a tissue handy.;)

Yes the tissue is very handy to mop up the tears of laughter streaming down your face as you watch the aforementioned anaesthatized person.
