Does anyone know how to get the front headphone jack to work on one of these? :)

And the USB ports for that matter...

Hi Maljonic

It could be your motherboard is damaged is all the front panel is not functioning. The USB ports could be disabled, so check that via Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. As for the headphone jack, try checking the volume in Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices[/url]. Also note that if you've installed a new soundcard, the front headphone jack will not work as it will most likely be connected to the integrated soundcard.

Kind Regards

Jonty

P.S. Try checking Dell's support pages, or get in touch with their support team. Sadly their email support leaves a lot to be desired, and their phone support isn't free, but they'll most likely know what's wrong. Either that or try Google etc. :)

Who's Mobius? ;)

It's a brand new computer, I'm at this guy's house I see every week and trying to get it so we can plug headphones into the front, he can't reach around the back.

Couldn't see much helpful in Control Panel; I gave Google a quick look, Dell's phone supports barely speak English (well not the same English I speak anyway, talked around in circles last time I phoned them), being in Delhi, and I'm not going to be here for that long - just thought I'd give Freddy's a go on the off chance someone else has the same computer. :)

Sorry Maljonic, going mad in my old age :) Sorry to hear you're having trouble, did you check the overall volume levels? Sometimes a system can be merely set so quietly it appears they're not functioning. Otherwise it really leaves only Dell's support. Try emailing them, it's a fairly drawn out process but you may get somewhere (in fairness I once encountered a very helpful Dell support technician, she even rang me up a couple of weeks later just to check everything was still okay; sadly such service does seem to be a rarity though :().

Kind Regards

I think he was a Doctor Who monster...a la "The Brain of Mobius" - I seem to remember John Pertwee locked in mental battle with a brain in a jar :m00:
