Mine has taken 3.5 hours to 22%

So about 4 hours x 4 = 16 hours for the defragmentation.

Who's had longer?

P.S - Yes, you can tell I don't defragment often! ;d

I've never defragged. Can't be arsed to wait for it to do. Computer's still as crap as it was before you wasted 2 days running the defrag routine

You'd get more value from trying to teach a snail how to sing.

Wish it worked like that. Time that is. Sadly the computer isn't that logical :D

Ironic? I'd like to think so.

But, anyhoo, if we're talking everwise then it's days, if only current setups, well, it's not that long even if i defrag once a year.

I just install a fresh XP every now and again to get rid of all the shit.

got my external HD of 500gigs, and reinstalling everything takes about an hour and a half.

Get yourself something like Raxco PerfectDisk. Much better than the built-in defragger, in that it defrags much better, faster, and shit, and makes the computer a lot faster aswell than the built-in windows defragger does. Isn't even superexpensive either.

My basic system software package, that should be installed on every pc is Raxco PerfectDisk, Acronis TrueImage, WinRAR, and Kaspersky Internet Security.
That's like, the huntingknife and magnesiumstick of computing :)

Windows defragger is useless by default, try a nice freeware like jkDefrag. It does a much much better job of optimising the drive for speed access.

Can't agree with the KIS, avast and zonealarm tend to do a much better job and cost nothing. Winrar is godlike though, tis the first app I install on any build.
