Defrag Question

One of my drive partitions (20gig) has currently 5 gig free and most of the files are fragmented. Everytime I defrag whether it be using Windows or
O & O it makes no difference and gives me a long list of files that cannot be defragmented. The files on this partition are mainly MP3s and some divx movies.

Has anyone any idea why the disk wont defrag?

hmm, are they perhaps flagged as 'read-only' or summat?

No, Ive just checked some of the ones listed in the report as not able to be moved and they aren't read only :(

can you manually copy them off the partition to another and back?

edit: also, I seem to recall wondows being gay if they're marked 'system'

tbh you need a windows buff. my piddly unix skills can't help you here, you've drifted too far into the dark side :(

It may be your windows swap file. Try setting it to a small or non-existent amount, boot into safe mode and try running defrag then.

The only other thing that may be stopping it is if you have a file larger than the amount of unfragmented spare space at any time.

You could also give diskeeper lite a blast, I find it to be a much better defragger than windows defrag (which blows).

It's free (try download.com) and it might be worth a shot?

Try perfect disk from raxco.com, its the best 2K/XP defragger supposedly.
(Ive had similar probs: but with PD set to aggressive free space consolidation and an overnight defrag it cleared everything up).
