Enough is enough!

for the last 5 years i keep promising myself i am going to learn the guitar. Well now is the time!

Got myself a guitar (dont ask what i have no idea) and i was wondering does anyone know any decent beginnners sites etc that they used to get going?

I'm in almost the exact same position! I've been wanted to learn how to play the guitar for a very long time. 4 years ago I got an electric guitar for my birthday, and for some reason it's been standing in a corner collecting dust. :( The "teach yourself" stuff that came with it kind of sucked.

Buy guitar pro, or download it from torrents once you want to learn some songs.

It's hard to describe how i learnt to play guitar...

When i first got it, i found it massively difficult, but kept trying. I remember the first things i learnt were riffs like the James Bond Theme, E-ride, The Pink Panther etc, then i moved on to chords.

The first Chords i learnt were from books like this, where the chords are mapped out and the songs are easy to play.

Then after a couple of years playing, everything was in place and i could play what ever i wanted electric or acoustic! It's that easy.

I've decided, or decided a while back, that i'll just start playing without any aid.

It might not be the most efficient way of learning, but heck, some guys must've learned it that way :D

And probably will end up looking at these guides one day...

well done matey, i did exact;y the same thing with the banjo, ive always liked them so a couple of years ago i brought one and am teaching myself through the internet. I did buy a dvd for the chords and tuning but then i found online lessons via you tube.

also check out the ezfolk.com forums they are really helpful there.

good luck and have fun and dont worry if you dont pick it up in a matter of weeks, youve got the rest of your life to learn.

Dont go trying needlessly hard stuff or "that song you always dreamed of playing"

start easy,
Learn the following "open" chords C,G,D, and when you've pwn them, add on E,A,F
when you got tho's down add on Am Em Dm B7

or a really simple blues would be E, E7, A7 & H7 these are all preatty easy chords and you can prob easily google them. the only one that can provide maybe abit of a challange would be H7 but after 30mins you'll take it like a pro

it's always just abit more fun when you can play something basic, then you can always go to the books or to a prof or evening school, join or start a band and wheat not.

btw if you learn all the chords I jsut posted, heh, well you'll actually be able to play most songs to some extent
