tomorrow ive got about 30-40 £ i want to spend on a decent single malt.
keep in mind i live in a shit town so there is no specialist shops around.

i think the best ive spotted is a bottle of glengoyne/glenmorangie at the tesco petrol station round the corner.

assuming i dreamt that up, what else is readily available in youre common shitty shop that is upto par with that?

if anyone says jack daniels ill shoot them.

edit: reason i ask is ive only tried about 10 different ones and i cant remember half of them. i just choose random expensive ones at a few pubs in edinburgh.

fiddich is ok but i wouldnt rate it above a lot of others. though it is easy to find in shops too.

surely the actual TESCO store will have a bigger selection than their petrol station.......

Laphroaig Islay Single Malt is really good
Caol ila Single Malt is good as well
Isle of Jura is top too
full listing below

Tesco Price Check

that IS assuming that theres is an actual TESCO next to the Tesco Petrol station

i have a super duper mega store round the corner, ive never looked for whisky in there though. i didnt think there was much of a range in your average supermarket

Laphoraigh is a single islay malt afaik, and all those islays do have this special flavour.

Tomatin is pretty smooth. Can´t compare it to any other single malt though.

Aye you can get a decent selection in most superstores, in general better than places like threshers. Although bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question, depending if u like peaty flavours or something a bit lighter.

Bowmore 12, to me it's very fine in that price. Like the tar/smoke flavor alot.

im not keen on the smoke flavour my self.

isle of jura will be my next purchase, want to get my self a nice little collection going. its my birthday anyway so im treating my self too!

If you are near Cambridge I have the following in that price bracket in my shop:

Glen Elgin 12
Caol Ila 12
Bruichladdich 12
Glengoyne 10
Talisker 10
Highland Park 12
Glenturret 10
Tomatin 12
Oban 14
Dalwhinnie 15
Glenkinchie 10
Strathmill 12
Jura 10
Linkwood 15

If you must go with Glenmorangie (It rhymes with Orangy btw) then I rather like the Port wood finish. It's a good brand but noone can compete with Tescos (wankers).

If you looking to spend alot, iirc the single malts in superstores cap out at around 30quid, don't think there's anything more expensive, but think good enuff to be getting on with.

Will be off up there in a couple of weeks, think best follow suit and start getting in some practice.

Tris,

Why not go for the online stores if you dont have a speciality store near you ?

as for the style of whisky you seem interrested in,
I'd say try the Talisker 18 "dono if 40 will cut it tho?" it's about 55 in denmark
or really any of the taliskers, thats just my personal favorit
