Alright chums. I want to buy a nice pair of headphones. Not to expensive, but not total shit. The big fat ones what cover your entire ears (the little bud ones get on my nerves)

What website can I get such an object from, and does anyone have any recommendations for a decent model?

I use Sennheisers, nice cans and sound fab. Hundred squid though and actually for DJ'ing, possibly not what your after. Sennheiser's in general are bloody good though.

Seinheissers are arguably the best but are expensive. What are you using them for?

If its for gaming I can recommend these ( a bit cheaper than Seinheissers......but not much)

In that case invest in the cheapest Seinheissers you can afford. Check out the HD500's. Its a low end model but significantly better than anything else for its price. I actually flogged mine on ebay last month and they went for £20...they were mint too.

Not up to the spec of the others mentioned here, but cheaper and possibly more suitable, are the Plantronics range. Ive had a couple of pairs of the 90 model, as I needed a mic too, and have found them comfortable and reliable, and only about 25 quid.
Having said that, my next pair will be dearer :)

Sennheisers, or Beyer Dynamics.

What's your budget anyway?

Maybe £30 or so, don't wanna go overboard. I'm not a huge "sound freak/audiophile" whatever :p I just want a semi decent pair that don't make me look like a berk.

Can't go wrong with these

They great write ups, they're Sennheiser, they're £30, they're portable for your MP3 player, they fold up for convenience when on the move.

:)

Some good reviews here

However, I think you should expand your budget to about 70 squid and get these. Now they're ugly as sin and they're in-ear. However, they're bloody comfy and the best sounding earphones you're ever likely to get for <£150.

another vote for senheisser. Bought a pair about 5 years ago for a £100. They have never let me down, great for music, games and dvd's.

Sennies.

Anyone that recommends cheap plastic trash like Plantronics needs to go die in a ditch. :D

Wouldn't spend too much on earphones for an mp3 player. The sound you get from the mp3 format isn't THAT great. So the player will be the "bottleneck", so to speak.

Koss Portapro is an ever popular classic with the added bonus of a life time warranty that works.

Obviously it depends what bitrate you're encoding your MP3's at. I encode my CD's at 256kbit AAC and use the FutureSonics that I linked to above. Rest assured, the sound quality is fanfuckingtastic.

Actually I will say my sennheiser support pad came off, I sent them back as they have a really long warranty and they sent me a new pair back within a week, superb service.

perhaps consider a pair of in-ear headphones? The proper sound isolating ones, they eat external noise and deliver harder bass than big cans ever could.

What he said..

Got a pair of HD-495's about 6 years ago and I still use them now. The quality is noticably better than my other headphones (Sony MDR-V700's).

I have recommended Sennheiser as a headphone maker to everyone I know and those that have got them have been very pleased with the quality of sound and performance overall.

I don't think you can go wrong with Sennies.
