Would a 512DDR2 module works (just works, i know the performance will be capped) on an old ABIT KR7 motherboard with chipset KT for an athlon 1700+¿?

I have recently just upgraded from 512 to 2.5gb on my 3 year old PC. I dont know a lot about PC's, but im pretty sure looking at those specs DDR2 RAM wont be compatible with your mobo. Use http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/ to find out what RAM upgrades are compitable with our mobo. If you are wanting to add extra RAM and continue to use your existing RAM, the crucial scanner wont tell if you the RAM they recomend is compatible with the old RAM. You can download a very decent system scanner from http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php , which even gives you serial numbers for your current RAM. Finally here is the thread that i posted when i was upgrading RAM.. lots of useful advice and the guys in this thread know a lot more about it than i do: https://forums.freddyshouse.com/showthread.php?t=190778 . I would definitely fit the RAM yourself.. really not hard. Here is a guide i found useful http://images.crucial.com/pdf/dimm_install.pdf.
edit: that guide is for DIMM slots, there are other kinds of slots (SODIMM and SIMM or something like that ;p) but i personally have never come across them so cant help with them.

im running ddr400 in this ddr266 mobo for same reasons. if u havent bought the ram yet can try www.crucial.com ram selector and it should find u some top spec ram that will work in the mobo you have atm.

if u do have the stick already and its ddr400 just try it. but remember to set all ram timings to thier default and/or failsafe in bios before fitting it. if it boots and operates on those settings then u can try find how far u can push it timingswise afterwards.

Simple answers: DDR2 won't work on your mobo.

only the very very very new amd chips (yet to come?) can run with DDR2
