OK, so it isn't actually a DoD forum, but this seemed the best place to post.
Anyway, I'm very impressed with the new beta, so much so that I'm thinking of starting a DoD division of my clan. We've got a few players already, but I'd like to find a few more people so we can begin to get involved in some matches and competitions. If you've got a bit of experience with CS or TFC and would like to try something new, then you're the kind of person we're looking for. Voice comms would also be a definite advantage given the team nature of DoD.

I hate the new beta - I 0wned in 1.3b, now it seems I shoot everything but the enemy.

Well, recoil does that...

I really like the new version, very slick indeed.

May have to do a little downloading methinks - I like the fact they've put recoil in.

Only problem is that there's still farrr too many muppets playing half-life mods - too willing to tkill and flame :(

The recoil on the big machine guns is mad you gotta try it :)

On the rifles I think its very good indeed.The allied Garrand was always so much faster to fire than the German bolt action gun,but now you have to re-aim after every shot, so it evens things up a lot.
Also it's now very difficult to shoot whilst running-realism again!

I'm sorry but I do prefer the old DoD. If you ask me they've upped the recoil far too much now on all the weapons. In the old DoD it was quite an even game, LPBs and HPBs could play and aside from a bit of lag here and there a HPB could own, for example me with my 400 - 500 ping that seems to grow everyday could stay about 3 or 4 from the top of the board, now I don't stand a chance. Its like playing CS the second but twice as bad. Here are some examples that a person with constant lag wil face:

Going prone is slow due to lag and will usually get you shot waiting for your bloke to drop.
Jumping in this game has always been akward and as a HPB timing your duck jumps is extremely difficult.
The stupid amount of recoil on every single weapon makes hitting a moving target 99% impossible as you have to try your best to compensate for when they actually are compared to where the screen says they are, then lower you aim after a burst.
Grenades are almost impossible to throw properly, you have to stand still for a couple of seconds before and after you've thrown, otherwise it'll bounce off the cover you're getting behind.
bandaging is slow due to the lag from when you've pressed the bandage button to when it actually realises you've pressed the bandage button.

None of this was a problem in the original. However I'm sure its a fantastic game from all you LPBs.
I just wish somebody could explain why my ping seems to increase every week. And why my modem will only ever conect with 28, 800 bps every time.

the amount of time it takes for me to deploy a machine gun is fucking unreal.

Old DoD was good, but lacked realism. Grenade throwing has always been dodgy, even in previous beta's and thats still here now. Going prone is slower I agree and I'm not sure I like that, but as for deploying machine guns, until you've actually tried it you don't realise how slow it can be.

Remember, this is a realism mod, not a deathmatch game. Hopefully these tweaks will deter the pricks that play HL mods from even bothering to download DoD v2.

And also Ignus, your ping makes virtually all online games impossible for you. You wont ever get rid of these probs until you either move house or get ISDN m8.

The new dod is FAR better.....

machine guns dont dominate so easily anymore as they have nasty recoil...

the allied rifle is less dominant now also, and then axis grenadiers rifle has been change slightly to balance it out a bit

the heavy MG's and the deployment ideas and everything is fecking quality... really adds to the whole feel of the game.... popping round a corner and ducking back, then seeing tracers fly past the wall youre behind... utterly scary and quality :)

so many more things i could chat about, i really like it, its brought the final nails in rtcw's cheap shoddy balsa wood coffin....

My 2 penneth:
I used to ping at about 180 in 1.3, now its about 3-400 in 2 :( (why??)
The new caen is LOADS better, far more sneaky ways around.:)
Dog1 is far to noisey (heh) and waaaayyyyy laggy (for me)
Voice is a waste of time. You cant hear what peeps are saying cos of all the background noise (realism i guess)
I t definatly needs better teamwork (3 men for one cap) which is OK, if your in a decent team, but shite if youve got a bunch of Rambo's ;)

But, on the whole, I prefer it. I just wish I could play with the config to lower my ping a bit. For some reason it wont accept my old 1.3 config.:(

yeah there a few lag issues with this release, the team have explained about it on the official site, and they are releaseing a patch 2.1 which fixes them very soon

Im beginning to hate dod_dog1

The Allies can not win :/

For a start the Axis get 9 points a tick for doing nothing at the begininning of the map.

And i was just on a pub server where the allies capped all the points and we only got about 15 point bonus :/

I know the idea is to have fun and not care about the score, but it would be nice, if the allies have worked really hard, to actually see that reflected in the scores.

i would expect at least 100 points for fully capturing all the flags, considering the cap points are right next to the axis spawn.

But as it is now, the Allies can do REALLY well and still lose.

On that map it would be nice to use the same thing as on RtCW,where the reinforcements come from a position futher up the beach once a flag has been captured.Then if the axis recapture the flag the allies have to start from the water again .

Good point - I think that on several of the maps it would be good to have a series of spawn points depending on the flags captured - it works quite well on Avanti in TFC (what a great map), although there is the difference that flags can't be recaptured by the defenders there (now I remember, Dustbowl is probably a better example, as the flags can change hands).

He has a reasonable enough modem, its more to do with his location as he's about 3 miles from town. He's always had crap pings.

A couple of the maps do have moving spawn points

On Zafod which ever team holds the bridge spawns much closer to the bridge, this is good, but can make it very hard for the other team to retake the bridge.

Also one of the beack maps, Overlord i think, once the allies capture all the flags, they then respawn at the cliff edge and have another 3 new flags to capture
