Seen almost 500 people playing on Dawnsong this sunday night (15th Dec) and yet the amount of punters posting to any of the various European boards (AC2HQ, Fallen Kingdoms, etc) is just a fraction of that amount.

Whats happening here? Is there a board that I am not aware of (no surely not!) that everyone else is posting too, or is the community just not yet mature enough.

One of the things I really likes about DAOC was the officaly run European forum. In fact I like it so much that when GOA shut them down (too hot for them to handle) then I left the game forever, and was never tempted back.

I know Barrys world and the others do a good job, but there seems to be a lack of any type of central posting area that everyone is useing.

Unless there already is one and (sniff) no-one is telling me :-(

I've just started playing this server and the game. It does seem quiet. What are the server populations like at peak times? There was 150 or so when I was just ingame.
Also to hijack the thread a bit, is it possible to /who like in daoc? I've tried that command and it doesnt work, but im not sure if AC2 has a similar one.

With DAoC the option to register here came with the game after you installed it which was pretty sweet because it told me about this place.

BW was adopted as our home when GOA closed down it's official forums because of the flames. AC2 has it's own official forum but it's very closely monitored by Microsoft.

Give it time, when people see what a cool game AC2 is, they will come.

The problem is that the official boards are terrible for AC2 - they're 100% moderated and the moderators only allow a tiny fraction of submitted posts to see the light of day, and even worse for the European boards, nothing at all so far. So the effect is that you're correct shatter - there's no central place so there's no community.

Much as I think AC2 has serious potential I'm getting really frustrated with Microsoft's insistance on stifling discussion and fragmenting any fledgeling community :(

Perhaps then the answer is to petition MS for a user forum that is not so tightly moderated... IE scanned and removed, not read and vetted.

Trouble is MS are a bit of a blank wall when it comes to talking to them. Perhaps petitioning Turbine would be better...

But you are right about the flames. Ofiical forums attract them like none other. YOu have to wonder sometimes if these flames (Game is crap and so on) are in fact posted by players of rival games (or companies).

Anywayyyyyyyyy....

Other ideas could be to encourage eveyone to post here by spamming them in game :)

Okay so this isnt such a toll idea, but it would take something like that to create a Gathering of Players...

Gnngh, so GOA shut down their forums because people were saying DAoC was crap? That's so utterly shit. And presumably Microsoft are doing the moderation thing now for the same reasons? It's goddamned fascism.

I have posted on the Offical MS AC2 board (the main one not the Euro because it is not taking posts at the moment !sigh!), and we will have to see what kind of reaction I get....

There needs to be something...

European players dont even have (as yet) a custom sheild for their worlds :-(

Why should they spend time and money on boards that continually put them down ?? How many mmorpg companies actually run there own boards ?

Personally I think the move to BW was a good thing

That's a really weak argument. So what if people put them down. Big goddamned deal. The advantage is it gives a central hub for the community, and that's a pretty big advantage. And as for "How many mmorpg companies actually run there own boards ?" I've just checked a fair few, and a lot of them do. Namely; EQ, UO, AO, Neocron (maybe not an RPG but whatever), SB... infact the only one I checked that didn't have any forums was the original Asheron's Call. Damned Microsoft.

And it isn't a good thing, because BW has no real link with DAoC (and I mean in terms of concept rather than "oh, but there's a hyperlink on the DAoC homepage!").
AND!!! Heavy moderation is still a really dumb idea.

This game definately needs a central place for a community. I love the game but the server population is so low its quite rare to see other players. Ive grouped a few times to kill a vault boss, but apart from that ive just soloed to 18 :\ As a pure melee class its very tedious. its sort of putting me off logging in.
Fingers crossed a lot of people will have this game for xmas.
