wasnt using ranged knockdowns or at least someone in the group might have at one point but thats not how we killed him and 2 more without us or the pets getting hit.

The only way that neither you or the pets could've not been hit would be by someone in the group using ranged knockdowns, its that simple. If someone knocked him (the DJM) down, he wouldn't have gotten an attack in until a number of seconds afterwards - plenty of time for another knockdown.

Without knockdowns, he would've been hitting something... and for quite a lot of damage too.
