Just a bit of personal theorising....

Like many people I quit daoc after 3 years mainly due to the sheer imbalances between the realms and classes and how certainly classes were never wanted etc etc. These sorts of things have been discussed ad nauseam.

A lot of people have been asking for all these sorts of things to be fixed, but to be honest the problems are deep within the game design and there is far too much baggage now to ever really address them. Imagine the uproar if they removed some classes etc. Like many people I eventually moved over to WoW. Now as they have the same classes on both sides, and each class has about 2-3x the number of abilities of a daoc class and are very versitile, there really is a high degree of balance. Sure it isn't perfect, but it's one of the best attempts so far. WoW was in a position to look at all the other mmorpgs, learn from their mistakes and also take the best parts too.

However....

DAOC still has the best PVP implementation on the market, it is far superior to WoWs, but the class and ability system undermines it for many to the point of unplayability. There is only one thing they could really do to address this, and that's the one thing they said they would never do, Dark Age of Camelot 2.

And what do they announce this week? They've taken over the development of Warhammer Online. I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be DAOC2 by another name, and if so I know legions of ex-daoc and current wow players that would come flooding back.

Here's hoping.

Theres already a daoc2 thread on the go btw.

I dont think there is much of an imbalance anymore, aside the ML and arti thing which Mythic are in the process of making easier for all, classes are OK IMO. Mythic designed the game with lots of differing classes, if you want the level of balance you seem to, all three realms would have 1 hybrid class and thats it.

The 3 realms make DAoC the best PvP possible, no other game offers it, so there is no comparison, especially to WoW. But games like WoW, GW, SWG offer limited combinations of battle due to the lack of difference between toons and that every tom dick and harry can get uber itemz and go gank someone else. Mythic put in characters for all player types, solo only (stealthers), chars that are both group freindly and soloable and those who are group essential (seer classes), so everyone gets a chance to play their own way. However, its not Mythics fault that human nature heads for the FOTMs rather than rolling the best combination of toons for one setup, you only have to look at teh top RP guild groups running round to know that they did setup rather than FOTM to see balance.

IMO, DAoC2 wont happen, the next "version" will nothing like the game we know and love. As for ppl coming back, check server numbers, its already happening, as most find the end game of WoW isnt what others cracked it up to be, unless you love crafting ofc ;)
