OK i have this new windows 64 bit RC1 from microsoft...was thinking about installing it and give some of the new features a try.
Anyone else have it and know if it works with daoc?

I have a Amd 64 cpu (2400 mhz), asus a8v mb, radeon x800 pro..all these products have 64 bit drivers so that is not a problem..

A review of RC1 here..looks good
http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/software/os/0,39024180,39183101-5,00.htm

"Build 1289 of 64-bit Windows XP already appears to be relatively well developed. Certainly it showed no evidence of instability during our tests. And as far as performance is concerned, we can expect the 64-bit version to match the current version when running 32-bit applications."

Tried to install the 64-bit version when I got my new system, but ran into some problems with general applications.

Firstly, Windows Update doesn't support the 64-bit IE6 installed with the OS, it needs to be opened in the 32-bit version.

Flash refused to install no matter what, making alot of sites annoying (including the Abit site when trying to get motherboard drivers for the 64-bit OS).

Didn't even get as far as DAoC, cause until the 64-bit OS is finalised and a 64-bit DAoC client is released, the only thing I would need the 64-bit usage for it UT2k4 and FRAPS...

The Windows 64 (WOW64) x86 emulation layer subsystem should be able to run 32 bit programs.. from MS : "Customers will find their 32-bit Windows knowledge to be fully transferable to the 64-bit Windows environment. Setup, configuration, and administration will be essentially the same."

hmm..

Another review here
http://www.gamepc.com/labs/print_content.asp?id=xp64rc1

64-bit benchmarks show CPU running 6% faster and a 2% increase in memory performance

Multimedia Benchmark showed scores well below the 32-bit variant (21% lower) ..radeon x800 driver was catalyst 4.2..quite old version..lets hope they release a new one soon:)

Half-Life 2 shows slightly better performance in XP Pro x64 Edition, but only on ATI hardware

AFAIK, windows update shouldnt work for any beta OS's, according to what microsoft peeps said when i had to go to one of there talks. As its a beta there still changing/updating all the time.

could be wrong though

As far as I know, the vast majority of modems do not yet support XP-64 as no 64 bit drivers have been created for them, although there are a few (wireless?) modem-routers which i've heard work fine as they do not require drivers. So your main problem would be getting online to play the game :)

As for performance, you should theoretically see no increase, as DAOC is 32 bit software. In practice you might see very slight increases purely due to better graphics drivers but probably only 1-2% at most. If a 64 bit version of DAOC is ever released, I expect it would show bigger performance gains that many other games due to its high reliance on CPU and RAM... but the chances of a 64 bit version of DAOC ever being created are practically zero.

As said by some in the posts before me, the 64 bit support (drivers, programs to adjust em) aren't that good yet. Got some friends who also got a 64 bit machine and they found that out too so they sticked to the 32 bit windows and stuff for now.

I wouldnt do it unless your runing 64 bit apps its not worth it its full of bugs its hard to get stuff to work with it. Its only realy designed for devoplers to compile in etc just wait for longhorn in earlyer 2006 that will be 64 bit enabled.
