Reading this I just realized one thing. I have recently been having more fun with my 44 mentalist, than my almost fully toad etc. lvl 50 ranger.

Think the reason is that I do not have any expectations of always winning cause of my über equipment, template and all that. Only time I got dissapointed with my mentalist were after getting him fully buffed then creamed by someone, as I then expected to win.

I find both aspects of the game (pve and rvr) very fun, but there is a mechanism that makes you dream of scenarios were u always win that leads to you becomming dissapointed with every little turn against u. Sometimes it is just to go out there and give it a shot (quite litterally in case of my ranger)

Just my 1 cent

I am just ashamed that I am starting to sound like my parents :(

" In the old days we had it hard, we didnt have food we had to dig for worms to survive "

We need to stop worrying so much about changes in the game and just play it as it should be, a game of fun and enjoyment where we can lose ourselves from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.

QQ on.. :p

i realy love the changes on how to get a hold of the arti's you want.

i seriously didnt know what changes were coming till i read this thread 10mins ago.
i pretty much gave up leveling my vampiir & playing my 50ns because of the arti's

my NS only has SoM and GoLM never won a single other arti tbh (unless it was a preclaimed arti raid or if i could solo it with my light menta)

seriously this gave me hope to continue leveling my Vamp & getting my NS @ a higher RR.

/wub Mythic now :)

I'm a fan of WoW, but as in all my mmorpg games, i take breaks once in a while, and now i'm on a break in WoW and returned to DAoC, because i want to rvr...
i got my bard to 50 (he was 46), i have no arti's, no good items, and no ML... at evenings i stand outside DL trying to find a group, never got an invite, so i just log again, i can't go farm any arti's, cause i'm a bard, i can't solo anything, and i don't have a bb, which means i'm crap, i will be happy if the patch is applied, so i can finally get some arti's too, i know there are a lot of groups doing arti raids and ml raids (already got ML1, and steps for 3, 4 and most of 5)... But i've got school, i do sports, i can't attend them all... i was lucky i had a great guild to help me lvl to 50... but since then, i got quite bored of the game already, after like a week... because i can't find any rvr groups, and most of the time the timing of ml raids and arti raids is bad for me, which is just bad luck...

Back before toa, where being competitive in rvr meant you just needed to have a good suit/weapon/quest items and a couple of rogs.

Being a casual player this was very good for me because all these things i could manage in my limited playtime.

After toa was released things changed drastically for me, i found that to be still competetive in rvr i need to obtain artis/credit/scrolls/ arti xp / mls etc.

Limited playtime + artis etc etc etc = frustration.

I learnt to live with it, things take forever unless a arti/ml raid falls on my date/time for playing.

I spent more time lvl'ng farming toons chanter/menty to be able to sell items etc to raise the plats needed for gov scrolls etc.

I'm glad the new changes to toa, obtaining scrolls/artis/arti xp will mean it will be easier for me to get the things i need to get back into competitive rvr,
i just need to be lucky the one time to manage to get to a arti hunt i need for credit/arti and can farm the needed scrolls easier/faster.

About the old fins groups/ Ez groups, now being able to lvl arti's anywhere means these groups may come back instead of poc where its Pb'r + leach/ fopper + leach needed for poc grp which means unless you got 2 acc's one with a pb or fop and the other the toon you need to lvl up/arti xp.

this can only be good for those ppl with rangers/shades/hero etc etc who now will have a better chance to get a grp for there arti xp.

I haven't read the majority of this thread so this has more than likely been already said BUT! Alot of these changes would have been made because for alot of people this game is about RVR not pve, there was alot of qq because of how much had to be done to get a character ready for rvr once toa was out and that was by people who had played for 2 years+. Now think what its like for a person just starting daoc, i know i haven't really recommended this game to anyone recently because they would get bored kiting out their toon before they even had a look at the frontier!

Back in the day xD people i knew people with 6+ characters ready for rvr which is nice for changing group setups around and such, only now there seems to be people with a decent amount of fully toaed characters because of how long it took to sort out.

Think these changes are great :p

edit: Oh and for those who don't have time to play daoc 24/7 these changes should be fantastic as they don't want to waste the time they do get playing standing killing mobs over and over again to exp an artifact so they don't die like a grey con in the frontier.

Sorry for this but i simply have to let my anger out at someone. Don`t get me wrong i still love the game, but that might be because i have never bothered to make "elite" characters. I play the game for fun only....

Still a few things later has started to annoy me. I am guessing at this point more players are comming from Wow, than going to it. Many old players as i have seen it are comming back because WoW didnt give them a challenge, and i totally agree. Played wow for 6 weeks, and by that time i had done allmost everything there was to do, unfortunately with some of the later fixes in Daoc this game is heading the same way.

Instances was one of the first steps on daocs way down. I was running around with my chanter yesterday and allmost fell out of my chair when i acctually saw a PvE group at lvl 21-24. Instances has made it easy for a lot of classes to solo their way to 50 without having to wait for help or standing in line at fins(finlaiths in cursed forest for all the new players that only does instances). This is a step towards not only making the game very little social, but allso immensly booring because of the wowfact named above, it`s to easy...I am still proud of soloing my gimped bard from 47-49 on green empyreans waiting for a finsgroup, and then staying in my finsgroup til i dinged 50 some 05.34 in the morning.

Reading the patchnotes for 1.81 though is what scares me the most.

To me this is the wrong way to go making the artifacts harder to get. Atm it`s a bit of a challenge getting them and thereby a greater personal reward when you finally get it. When they in addition to this fix also makes more mobs drop the scrolls(even easier mobs), it means that my GoV that i was very proud of will be as hard to get as the dim-lit cloak dropping at lvl 3 of a named mob called Dwayne outside the mm instance(btw, love you dwayne)

This has to be bad totally destroying Horners chance of finding some poor hibs doing leps. But seriously this will remove certain areas from the map, poc will still be good for xp, but if artifacts level everywhere why go someplace risky??
Aswell as doing these fixes the will also increase the spawnrate of artifacts.....why??.....all players should have all artifacts in 2 weeks with the rest of these fixes.

When it comes to ML`s the ml requirements for the mlcaves have been lowered, some might say this is good...once again i dont. This is just one of many things recently implemented in the game purely because other games are easier. Mythic and GOA need to wake up :twak: .... this is the reason more people are now commming back....easy in the long run equalls booring.

Atm there is no challenge getting to 50, and after this patch there should be no challenge getting ml10 or getting your template artifacts...

Think carefully, how long has it been since you saw a PvE group not lvl 50??
How long has it been since you saw a grouped bard not in RvR??
How long has it been since you saw players without a BB w/ FOP?

On the third question there i want people to notice i do not blame people for having BB`s. I do not blaim people who specc a BB and use him at all. tbh i think it`s smart, just using an option the game gave you. The issue imo is giving the BB FOP. How destructive isnt this for a game that should be about fun, challenges, and grouping, meeting new people....

The recent fixxes also has ment that in order to keep up you need to specc your char in a certain way.

Ments go light for the sally, ards go music for RvR, Chanters go mana for pb, Anims go Verd for farming and artis.

Yesyes i am fully aware that some classes has allways specced this way. What i am trying to put forward is that with the fixxes made people are now forced to specc this way cause the other lines suck. Personally i /salute anyone who dares go other ways. Luckily my guild still holds alot of players that has been playing since the beta, and that helps us group up even with the characters not "elitespecced". We even have voidelds and regrowthbards still...and we do our best to take care of them even though another specc would do better damage.

I am also worried about the social matter with the game. A year or 2 ago i know a lot of oldtimers quit because of this and it`s only gone worse since that. When i am making another character i allways ask for hints and tips from the 50`s in the class i`ve chosen, and most people are very helpful.....atleast those who has played the game a while(i try to ask those i know been on the game a while since they are more familiar with how the classes used to be an so on). But when i ask for help speccing a druid, i get the normall responces on what specc is the best. But when i tell them i want mine to be fightingspecced, just to have a laugh...the start to call me a moron, saying i wont ever get groups, questioning my inteligence(new players mostly this). That i dont like. I am a person with normal intelligence played ever since the US beta, been on E&E for over a year when the servers started in Europe. I do not think it`s fair saying these things to me, just because i wanna be bold and try something for fun even though i am fully aware that i will fail on making a good char......it`s still all about the fun.....

Personlly i have arranged nude marathons in albland, Poem contest with great prices, and this halloween a chickenrun....... big thanx to all those who participated in all theese things and i am pretty sure all who came though it was a good laugh. Sometimes i feel i`m the only one doing things out of the ordinary. We need more of theese things if we want people to continue playing the game even after 1.81.....

Positive notice from 1.81 though....heros might be worth playing again..

As you can see the game is turning more towards the other MMORPGS that people are comming back from. Which seems an awfully wrong way to go. Wow has good sides aswell, why dont try to implement them, like giving more xp of quests?? Imo classic servers will be a huge help for us oldtimers, focusing on grouping, having a laugh and a challenge.....

Well long post this....feedbacks hugely appreciated

seriously man, are you masochist?!?
all the changes in this patch you mentioned are great improvements that should have been ingame from start of toa. honestly how can mindless mob bashing vs the by far most stupid AI ever be any challenge or even fun?
the challenge in daoc and in all other serious MMORPG´s clearly lies in PvP.
and in that point daoc is by far the most challenging game atm still and will prolly be for a while.

It certainly seems to be the way forward. Very soon we'll see a lot more of the Guild Wars type of game which is a fusion of FPS and MMOG and most existing mmorpg's seem to be bending to this forumla because it is successful and attracts a much wider player base than the origional target audience, which was roleplayers and the more mature gamer.

WoW, SWG and DAoC seem to have realised this from the korean experience and it is a recipe for a cash cow.

Have to face facts, "roleplayers" have evolved and most of the D&D generation are getting to their 40's and 50's now and are not a viable market for games creators anymore. Younger "roleplayers" are far more diverse, they seek escapism in a persistent online gaming world they can take-or-leave whenever they want plus they have grown up with online gaming and so are a brand new type of consumer. They damand quicker progress, more "active" content whereby they arent stuck killing crappy AI mobs over and over until they are dizzy.

Who can blame them, and who can blame games companiees for realising this and bending to it.

Well first of all i would like to thank those who read the thread and replied. My point with posting this thread was not only to get my own views out in the open, but also to see what other players thought about some of the same issues. To me the responses has been diverce and very well explained(maybe except for the post calling me a masochist), and i thank you all for it.

Mentioned above is a lot of different views and it to me explains how hard it is for Mythic Goa to please everyone.... as i learned while modding the US servers and playing E&E here.

I guess in all fairness that the game needs to evolve when thinking about increasing playerbase and making money. misintepret me correctly on this, i still think the changes will make the game more off a MMO than a MMORPG, but i do clearly understand the points made by others...

Some guy earlier told me to hang in there even though the roleplaying part of this game hasnt excisted for a long time. As a responce to that i would like to say thati was one of the first players logged onto US beta, and sure as hell i`ll be one of the last to log off these servers don`t worry. You`ll have to struggle with me a long while still.....

tbh, DAoC is not really roleplaying in the D&D way of thinking. For me, DAoC is a game like any other, just that I can have fun with real ppl and don't only play to get the final video. A video game will always be too limited for some real cool rpg, I rather phone my friends and we do a few hours of D&D, it's much more satisfacting in terms of roleplaying. I mean no real character would ever run around beating monsters for hours to get some great item from them, there's much more story involved in a characters life than this.

So what I want to say is, that I don't expect things from a game which I don't think it will ever be able to give me, so I enjoy it like this. I like fighting other people, measuring who's better. After all I see it like a sport and while others play football games or Warcraft to compete, I play DAoC.

So in conclusion, what Brack already said =))

You really have to c it from 2 points here..

The guy like me who play abit to much maybe this patch sucks because i want artis to be something speciel an not some random noob can have..

The guy who only plays a few hours a week Its great because then he dont have to use all he's ingame time pveing an he can use the time what daoc is all about rvr ;)

So tbh its good an bad hope this can bring more ppl back to the game..

People will still need to farm artifacts for drops, compare the price of Malice axe to the price of the belts which drop from that encounter.

For the people who loves farming rare items there will still be a business. And alot of the encounters are hardly a challange anyway. How exiting is it to run coins?

erhm...in their 30s please:p
And its prolly true what with younger people being target. "older" people doesnt have as much time period. On the other hand i think the older people have way more patience and tend to whine less and adjust more to the game, while younger people want results and demand more:) Which means they (old people)will stick around longer if the game creates a possibility for casual gaming etc.
As some pointed out daoc turned out to be far away from a rpg cause of the people playing it.
I was drawn to the game in the first place cause i like fantasy and the idea of the full scale battles. And i know many that felt the same way. I have a hard time understanding why you would like to play it though if you were only for the action...then i would have played a fps like bf2(as i do sometimes as well), i do think most people like the idea of it set in a fantasy world and the enviroment we play in.
hehe most people that played a pen and paper rpg prolly experienced a session were someone brings a friend that doesnt fit in at all. they ruined the atmosphere with their awkward play style..or they couldnt imagine anything at all and were constanly destroying the fantasy by bringing up rl stuff etc:p
As a gm or a rl friend you could always avoid that by not playing with that guy anymore^^
In daoc you dont have that choise...which makes it impossible to have any ounce of rpg:p My first disapoinment when running rvr those years ago and someone to my horror screamed: lets kilz0rs those gay alb fuckers, kinda put everything in perspective for me...
But it turned out to be a nice game to play after all...but more in a social way..and still like the atmosphere of it. I try to avoid the partypoopers that i dont like....and it worked quite well this far.
