I know some of you have tried out CoH lately and I'd just like to get a few opinions of what you think Daocs RvR would offer that would beat CoHs rather intense battles? Or vice versa ofc...

Daoc pros:
*********
Keep seiges
Large scale battles
Medeivel time setting (pro for some, con for some)

CoH pros:
*********
Intense and fast paced battles
Another dimension added (flight, jumps etc)
Powers such as knockbacks, teleportation, super speed etc should give fights an extra spice
Super Hero setting (pro for some, con for some)

Would be happy for any opinions/thoughts :)

CoH sounds like SWG where you do a few moves/spells what ever and youve either won or lost, so daoc for win! :p

is CoH PvP out yet? :)

given how cheezy some of the CC is in CoH PvE it does worry me about the PvP - that said there are counters in the speclines but it may well just become "who gets off the first aoe hold"

Filmgoblin, there are inspirations (potions if you like) that cure from holds/mezzes/immobilize etc. Sort of like a purge, and afaik they'll add immunity timers once PvP starts.

As for "pressing a button and see if you win" is not really true. Even in PvE any given encounter isn't awefully predictable. There tons of styles/powers for different situations. I think what will ultimately seperate the skilled players from the unskilled will be the use of the correct powers at given times.

However it might turn out to be much like daoc? In daoc the initial mez is very important and perhaps it will be just as important in CoH? Which do you think requires more skill, daoc or CoH?

In daoc you have what spells to cast and when, the only problem as I see it as that a mage only uses like 1-2 dmging spells depending on the fightstyle and group setup (single target, AE or pbaoe I guess). The lower lvl spells never really matter anymore. In this way I would think CoH might be more challenging. But the defensive jobs in daoc seem pretty dang hard (playing like Tusk anyhow ;p) and I'm not sure if the guarding system in CoH takes as much skill to master. I think the CC classes will be just about as tough to play in both games perhaps. The difference being you need to keep track of the type of CC (i.e don't use an earth CC spell which requires the targets feet to be on the ground when he's flying) whereas in daoc you only have to worry about what immunity the said target has atm.

More opinions would be fun :)

Oh and btw, I'm not biased as I love both games! I don't like one more than the other really ;)

not seen owt about immunity timers but without them it'd be hideous ;)

I see people going out loaded with all their inspiration bars filled with demezz :)

course anyone with an active defence ability will be screwed (have to recast the buggers every time you get stunned - fun being a scrapper... really)

I think they'll have a long way to make the PvP interesting but they've done well with the PvE part of the game on a shoestring budget so we'll have to see :)

It gets a bit boring at 15, but after 20 or so it gets very fun again since the mobs etc get a bit tougher and more exiting. But that's not the point really, was more about how PvP COULD be ;)

Scrappers may not be the best class in the world though, but imagine a scrapper with invisibility... Freaky for them blasters!

very little skill in CoH :p

there is no interupt, 2 ppl could basically stand there with their finger on their main DD/hit wtvr, and it becomes battle of the who specced highest DMG dealer. Plus the flying and jumping pretty much renders any mellee openents useless not too mention the ability to be able to run from every battle or make PvP a catch a mouse game all over town with zone porting and all sorts of BS.

prolly 1 year till coh pvp expansion tho. but the fights in coh>daoc imo, mostly cause of the faster speed.

If CoH would work as it is working now, then it would be a problem in PvE just because of the non-interrupt thingy. However I'm sure they'll notice such things when betaing it.

Also about the people leaving, CoH has a very very solid playerbase. Yes, when PvPers join in, they often leave quickly. Also when powergamers join in, they leave quickly. The difference between CoH PvE and Daoc PvE is that in daoc you PvE to get to a goal (lvl 50) and in CoH it's the journey to 50 that counts. Now reading story archs and getting involved in stories and setting oneself into a role doesn't fit everybody.

I would say:
PvE - CoH > Daoc
PvP Daoc > CoH (duh, for now at least ;p)
Roleplaying - CoH >> Daoc (it's a shame really that daoc has sort of turned into the CS of all mmoprgs.)

I sure hope they fix the interupts you were talking about though :/
And battle-fleeing.

daoc pve is only "the thing between you and RvR" because people make it that ;)

it used to be the journey that counted.

That said CoH pve feels better solo because of the missions - grouped it felt very much like DAoC :)

with TOA despite what majority say i did enjoy the MLs, Mythic have put alot of time and effort into the lanscapes varying mls etc. and imo it shows.
If you see it as a task then it will be, only lil thing was that i didnt like the fact there was no storyline going through the MLs (like you had when ou did your epics and old style quests).
COH beta was pretty dry hit 1 button ftw (hence the tekken simily), but we shall see :) gl in it i personall havent found anything that matches daoc in the pvp aspect or even come close.

Daoc's tag line : Strongly PvP set, with large scale battles, keep takes and relic takes.

No other mmorg since then has had that much more to offer, prettier gfx perhaps but the gameplay soon loses interest. The great thing about daoc is that even from the word go of release you could batter the crap out of the people of the opposing realm. :worthy: Even people who had played EQ before thought that daoc was a truley magical experience when they first started.

"ack ive been shot by somthing called a lurikeen!! wtf is that?"

Anarachy online had the missons before and they got very boring but the game set in general was quite original.

A prime example would be Horizons, it tag line was it was a dynamicaly changing landscape with mobs that advance against your villages/towns, loads of events and gm interaction (like a big game domination) you can push back the forces of the undead to uncover dungeons and stuff too. Sounds good? Well it was shit, the mobs had nothing if not less AI then the daoc (pvp game) mobs.

My point is this, if your going to make an mmorg its going to have to be the best in its type when it comes out. As CoH is a PvE game, is it the best PvE you have ever played? Do the mobs have a huge improved AI level from other mmorgs? does the lanscape/environment change as event in the game unravel? "Oh no Dr Death has blown up the bridge" Can you even modify the way you look throughout the game?

DE looks promising....

uhm actually it is off-topic, this is daoc rvr discussion, not 'compare CoH and DAoC' discussion.

i can make a few new threads in here tho, if this really belongs here.

it might be better suited in General but it was comparing daoc RvR rather than daoc in general.

Oh wait I forgot this is the "radar, zerging and stealther whines" board. I forgot I changed the board title last week.
