Daoc 2?

Hey all, long time since I visited these forums.

DAOC was my first MMO and I loved it to bits for well over 5 years.

I was a very active player and moved over to US servers once pryd/excal died.

What I want to know is..Would anyone here like to see a DAOC 2? or do you think we should just let the legend lie?

Also, I would be very interested to hear what ideas you would like to see if there were a DAOC 2, and what changes you would make..

Incidentally, I quit DAOC for a while after TOA as I hated the 'spawn camp' aspect of the game, although I did rejoin US classic and loved it..for a while.

Unfortunately, as a casual gamer, there was just too big a difference between players like myself and the more dedicated 'gear fanatics', although the community was still great when I left.

I had my hopes on WAR, but sadly it did not fulfill my expectations..

Anyway, let me know of your ideas and if a possible DAOC 2 would appeal to you.

mythic hold the IP, mythic are working for EA on WAR, so no on both counts :)

I don't think it'd happen as mythic are now under the control of EA. EA execs will basically look at sales and see it as pointless bringing out a second version of a game which didn't sell nearly as well as other products and takes more time/manpower to implement.

I'm glad in a way. DAoC was awesome but I'd rather see it under a new name then simply bringing about a sequel. Look at everquest 2 as an example, hardly anyone played it really.

WAR I suppose is the current DAoC2; lets just hope mythic decide to try and bring about something a bit more like DAoC with their next attempt if they have one.

Secondly, I think alot of the Daoc players have moved on, in life as well,
so the community would be another,

The only thing I would like, to someday see returned to the Mmo world is the 3 realm aspect wich only Daoc did so well, "pre toa/ frontiers, an almost arcade apraoch to the pvp aka RvR.

lots of other mmo's have pvp, lots of other mmo's have an arcade feel to them, but none
ever combined the Rpg/pvp & arcade parts quit as well as Daoc

but thats my opinion. ;)

can't see anything like daoc coming out again, makers are to interested in sales (ye ye ano it's been said already previously) this means they're gonna mainly cater for the wow ppl and continue down tht shitty path.

Im looking forward to Darkfall online, was glad to hear release date not song far away now too.

Personally I would buy DAOC 2 if it did ever come out,as I suspect would most/all folks still on these forums; If only out of curiosity.

I think however, that there are a new breed of player nowadays who have changed the MMO genre for good, and we may never see a return to the maturity and respect found only in the communities of EQ and early DAOC.

I have tried 90% of the MMO releases since ToA and have been disappointed with them all so far.
I find the games are generally well made, although they lack the 'magic' somehow - I wonder if it is the player attitude and not the game..

Anyway, thanks for replies so far..I think that most ex-DAOC fans feel kind of the same way, and would rather remember the good times..

the problem with WAR WOW AOC ECT ECT ECT

isnt the game as such


its the fact you can't really grp, cos if u don't paly for a day all your mates are on differnt quest and thats it, soloing for eternity grinding out quests

100% the case. Talking to someone outside your set group of friends is a complete nono in online games these days. Why would you want to talk to someone who could be a newb afterall?

It's the reason that DAoC for the most part died. In the beginning everyone was a newb so grouping with other newbs wasn't a problem. Once half the population graduated from newb class then grouping with randoms ended, since there was a good chance you'd end up grouping with a newb.

This meant you either had a fixed full group with everyone there and had fun, or you grouped with 7 newbs and got slaughtered by the set groups over and over again. Changing the name of the game doesn't change that philosophy in games revolving around killing other players in fights involving teamwork.

Yeah, which is why it's always a good idea to get in on the beta pre or even stress testing it. At least then you know what's coming. That's what I've been doing now for years and tbh, i've not been wrong about one :)

When it first came out it was excellent, then it got gradually crap.

i still think its a good game jsut some aspects have spoilt it, like arti's ml's cl's ect drove people away, theve made them easy now but bodygaurd grapple and ml9pets just annoy you to the point you cba to play....

The only bad thing each and every addon did, was making every class a damn hybrid with all ml´s, cl abilities and artifacts. Trials of Atlantis wasn't all that bad, except for the Masterlevels itself. Same when they introduced champion level abilities.

but unless you had 15 hours a day to camp an arti mob then 500p to buy the arti+ scrolls ect you couldn't compete thats why SOOO many upped and left, toa killed the casual player


ofc now you can get a char to lvl 50 and fully toa templated for about 5p in about 12 hours


but its to late for people that have already left

I heard in darkfall as a caster or archer you have to aim roughly where you want the spell/arrow to fire. If someone is in your way (ally) it will hit them....can see this being abused lol. Hopefully they'll fix that

I would pay double the old daoc-subs a month just to have it back the way it was pre-toa!

Such a fantastic game.

Nah, they'll just screw it up like they did with WAR. They don't seem to have any idea what made the RvR so great in DAoC.

Give an upgraded gfx engine and more ppl to DAoC instead imo :>

there will never be a game like daoc again, quite simply because the game wasnt actually all that good but what made it great was its community the players made that game a success and i think thats because it had such a small player base (in comparison to most mmo's) what was it on excal 3k max pop? most games treble that these days in much MUCH larger worlds

i could go on for ages but theres not much point dont think we will ever see a daoc 2 not sure id want to, daoc holds a special place in my heart and i dont want it tainted :)
