DAOC 2 Technical

I'm not sure if anyone reading this has been playing since beta...but...wasn't everything 12 months ago a hell of a lot simpler ?

The hole in the wall in the Barrows was a life-saver. You could chain-pull mobs. Cleric smite wasn't nerfed. 2H Paladins were respected.

We had a RVR leader (Finster) and we won much more than we do now against Mids and Hibs. No one nicked our relics.

There were less noobs. Mithra was fun to experience in. There were loads of people in Lyonesse and Catacombs ! Cabalists were fun to play. Minstrels were of use in RVR.

Someone reaching 50th level was rare ! Someone having more than one 50th level character was unheard of ! No one used illegal macros to power-level. Guilds were relatively few in number and contained nice people.

Nowadays, 60% of Albs are twats, average age 13, IQ the same, possessing an inability to form relationships with anyone in the real world, a masturbation fixation, and intollerance of anything or anyone other than themselves.

We suck in RVR. The classic PVE zones are now empty. Now everything is powerlevelling, buff-bots, IRC, and if anyone posts anything in BW its guaranteed flaming material from degenerates (you know who you are, arseholes).

Spell-casting has now powered us all up stupid. You now need frigging calculators, charts, 2 PCs blah blah blah

Sometimes I just feel like re-installing DAOC without any of the recent patches or the SI joke, and just play like in the old days...

Where are all these twat albs? I just don't notice them. Are they in your guild? They sure as hell ain't in mine...
We suck in RvR; well, yes. The classic PvE zones are now empty; what, do you feel sorry for them or something? Everything is not powerlevelling. The vast majority of things are not powerlevelling. Buff-bots? Well, yeah, it's becoming more and more common, but what can you expect? I know of one shadowblade who used a buffbot right from release and a minstrel also. Do you not think the people they killed weren't going "bloody buffbots" to themselves?
You NEED spell-crafting? Oh, come on.... no-one is forcing you to get an SC suit. If you don't care about maximising your RvR efficiency or whatever then don't buy SC! Calculators, charts, 2 PCs... No, you don't NEED all this. What are you talking about? If you mean crafting charts then all crafters have always needed spreadsheets etc that got changed and updated constantly as minor changes occured through patches, and so on.
The SI joke? Which SI joke is that? Personally I'm much impressed by the amount of new stuff to explore that SI brought.

Hmm, are you complaining that being able to walk through certain walls got nerfed? I'm going to stop responding now.

try avalon or krondon - plenty of holes in the walls there....

lets nerf falling damage, go back to stun guard, remove the bolts from the fire spec line, cut down all those silly spells that were there.

Go back to tanks being left at the pk because they're no use in RvR. people vanishing in camelot, remove all that guild keep nonsense...

get rid of items! who needs itemisation, high level crafting - sod that. Monsters in lyonesse you say? get rid of em!

Dartmoor? pah who needs dragons anyway.

DaoC is a fusion of two sets of people, who are divided on their attitudes to the format of the current game.

On one hand you have people (like myself) who have been playing since beta and have experienced how DAOC has evolved. On the other hand, there are people who share the same views as yourself, who love SI, who are fans of SC, who hate whingers, and flame people, and turn DAOC into a school playground, etc.

And that's fine - people are entitled to their opinions and to like certain elements or to pronounce anathema against others.

So while I accept that your points represent the majority of people who currently play, my post was intended to elicit empathy with the small minority of players who are disillusioned with the format of the current game. Those who are happy need not bother contributing to this post.

Finally, if I hated it that much, I'd cancel my account. I guess the only reason I've not done so, is because I seem to get more enjoyment from having a laugh with old "friends" than bothering to get seriously into character development or RVR anymore.

I'm under no illusion that my recalcitrance will last much longer, and I will not bother to re-subscribe. Hence why I yearn for a return to the good old days, yet am realistic enough to know that it aint going to happen.

The dichonomy between being bored with the game and leaving friends is echoed by all the old timers who quit. For everyone out there to whom this post was intended for : you know who you are - enough said.

well i have been playing from the game relased in US ... (thats before euro beta)
and i do share a lot of Landsharks views .. Love SI .. hate SC ..

what does that make me ?.....

i think it is as mess said ... you miss beening a noob ...

i still remeber when i was lvl 10-15 in plains and grouping with some very nice ppl who was completly new to daoc ..

at some point 1 of them pulls a mob scout without knowing what it was

/g1 strange .. i hit the druid and it ran from me .. do you guys think i scared it..
/g2 haha a clever mob it knew it was gonna die
/g1 SHHIIITT IT WENT INTO CAMP TO TELL ABOUT US NOW THEY WANNA KILL US RRUUNN!
/g1 dies
/g run run runrun ..
group dies..

/g1 what happend there?? how could it know it should bring more friends ?

thats was uber fun at that time ... but now every1 knows what a mob scout is ..

so the game evolves ...

same with other games i played like Starcraft, Age of something
games does evolves these days ... cause we dont wanna play Galaxy anymore
(old space shot em up game)

I'm afraid that most companies that provide an online game are very focussed on balancing the game as much as possible. While this seems to be a good thing it also means it will make the game more difficult. An easy playable game turns into a game where things aren't as easy anymore.

Because these companies also want more members they keep evolving the game which isn't always an improvement.

I agree with you Genesis but like you said yourself, these is not much we can do about it. Just wait and see what Mytic/Goa comes up with this time and adapt all the time hoping the changes will improve things instead of making things worse.

I must admit to being a little less optimistic that anything that will be introduced in future patches will turn me back into the person I was when it was first released.

Those very very long late night sessions. The absolute addiction of levelling and having fun in groups at the classic PVE spots. I find it a shame that really beautifully rendered dungeons such as Tepok's Mine, are now always empty.

Darkness Falls was the catalyst for much change in the game. I find it also a shame that you can no longer chain-pull mobs, that Spell-Crafting is now almost a pre-requisite to survive in RVR, and that Realm Abilities have been the cause of so much despair across all 3 realms. I could go on, but I've covered all this in another post in the Albion "General Discussion" board.

For anyone who loves the game still and who keenly awaits future patches, I hope you continue to enjoy many years of DAOC fun !

I guess for me that time has stopped and its time to find another MMORPG (until that too changes, and the cycle begins again).

Oh BTW LandShark

If being sentimental about the old days is being a n00b, then so be it.

Like I give a shit that people like you insult me in a good-natured thread just because I remember with fondness having fun on a computer game with nice people ?

It just goes to illustrate my point about the increasing number of unpleasant people in the game.

Call me whatever you like. Noob. Twat. Whatever. Knock yourself out. I call it fun. When I leave Camelot I will take with me a set of Email addresses and some fond memories.

What will you take ? Professional counselling with any luck. On your way out, go buy yourself a personality.

I admit the game has evolved since the start, but then again, what game doesn't?

I have been playing DaoC from the release on ( sadly I wasn't lucky enough to play beta :( ) and I still have as much fun now as I did back then.
I do not get the impression that people are less nice now as before. Most players are still helpful and friendly.
In fact some of the more "veteran" players are those who won't help another person who is in trouble.

The players haven't changed at all, even though some of you may think so.
