Now that I finally have some kit capable of showing HDTV I thought I'd try the much-hyped 1080i and 480p options on Gran Turismo 4.

But it seems they didn't bother implementing it on the European release.

It's late and I've not checked but have you tried holding down X and /\ when it boots the disc? That usually lets you select progressive scan etc on games. Sometimes you have to hold it down until it's got past the first loading screen (Burnout Revenge for example).

Looks like we've really been screwed over on this side of the Atlantic. Makes no sense to have not included them in this game :(

It's like the fact that our PS3 emulates the PS2 whereas the American machine actually has a PS2 chip in it.

id guess its because here, companies charge the earth for anything compared to the rest of the world.

if they can charge the earth and not have to put in as much technology, they can make a bit of cash back.

its not sonys or PD fualt. they made the choice to remove it coz in usa/jap peeps with the early ps2 had majorprobs getting 1080i to work many peeps complained that mid game it drop from 1080i to 480i. on the funky slim versions this is not prob but from v3 to 6 it was a problem. it was one the reasons they pulled it. still they could have left 480p mode in for pal

GT4 fans should also check out the sublime tourist trophy, uses the same engine but for moto bikes! saw copy in game station for £8 last weekend

I have not had a chance to play many old games on my PS3 yet but one thing i do like is GTHD it looks stunning and if its true they are improving the graphics engine yet again for the full game then i can't wait.

gthd is the gt4 engine with a few improvements, i hope they put some efforts into the crowds tho, slaming close to em and seeing em static is very odd

GTHD is basically higher res GT4, but with a higher polycount on the cars and slightly higher res textures for tracks.

GT5 will look far better.
