OK, so this morning I left the Wilier house at about 0540 to pick up my travelling bud for work. Got halfway across a dual carrigway in Scunthorpe and..........nothing. The fuggin thing just, stopped. No warning lights, no hazards, no battery light, nothing.

So I pop the bonnet, find the battery terminal cable has sheared (fuck knows how) and thats that, stuck.

So I decide that I cant leave it in the middle of the road, so I start to push it to the patway on the other side. Now I dont know how many of you have tried to push a BMW 323coupe by yourself, with no power steering, across an admittedly quiet road, but believe me, it was hard going.:( Then I had to get it up the kerb at the other side. :uhoh:
Then I ran to my mates house and cadged a lift (doubt his wifes gonna be pleased when she expected to have the car today)

Nice start to the week.

So you haven't grabbed a works van and an obligatory sparky to fix it then ?

I had a similar problem in my car - driving along when suddenly all the lights went off, then came back on again, then off, then on..etc. Turns out the cover on my fusebox was loose, a simple whack on the cover fixed the problem. :)

323 Coupe - nice car btw :)

Well, I would, but its about 20miles from work, and I need to be in radio contact in case of fires. :)

When you get the cable fixed, check the engine mounts too. That sort of thing is often caused by the engine moving too much on it's mounts.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the servicing costs like on your BMW?

Well, tbh I do the servicing myself. Ive recently done the oil/filter/plug thing and that cost about £100 all in (air filters are way too expensive).

I did the brakes last year, new discs all round, new pads and a couple of braided hoses cost me about £250, again I did the work.
Exhaust isnt cheap, Im cosidering getting a stainless system cos the steel one is over £180 for the full system. None of the parts are oem.

Tyres arnt cheap, Pirelli p Zero's come in about £160 each.

Petrol is a bit of a killer tbh, only does about 28mpg, thats why Ive started travelling with someone else on the shift.

28mpg - I dream of that kind of MPG. :(

Tyres are a killer also, I feel your pain. :(

Which is probably why the thing broke down in the first place.

And as for the goats - least you have a backup when Mrs Wils comes down with her "headache"

But thats no longer the case with BMW.

There name is being devalued by all the boy racers buying the old ones and doing all that crap that people do to their cars to make them look l33t.

I see more BMW's nowadays than I see Vectras or Mondeos

Audi & Mercedes still have their cred as far as I'm concerned :)

Beemer repaired. Running fine now. Engine mountings all ok.

Laz, piss off. :p

Skyler, and your car is ??

I bought the BM when it was a year old, so it certainly wasnt cheap, and I havnt changed a thing to make it more "boy racerish" Whilst admittedly BMW's are becoming more commonplace as the price drops, they are still rock solid and drive beautifully.

End of story.

You wanna watch home servicing on a BMW, especially if you don't use BMW parts. Car will be less reliable and will prove harder to sell on.

Tbh I don't think the popularity of shit 318i's etc is effecting the BMW name at all. There have always been a wealth of 316's and 318's on the road, and people still remember BMW's don't start getting nice til you reach 325i+.
