Eejit, was just gonna respond to a post! :)

Wireplay anyone?

Wireplay was great until they dropped the subs. And then even shitter to a greater extent when they went from the higher phone charges to fully open & public service.

I was a devoted WirePlayer from 1995-2001, while playing on BW publics a lot too (Duke Nukem, Q2 and Q3). I saw the service go from fantastic to shit, through ever increasingly open servers and services.

Basically on a free service the amount of utter fuckwits is immense, and subs, while hated by some, also has the beneficial side effect of rooting out the tosspieces who are basically only there to be a tosspiece and piss ppl off.

If subs cleans up the servers and leaves only (or largely) those people that purely want to have some fun by playing the game and being a committed member of the overall community then thank god says I.

There. That's all I wanted to say. Now to read the rest of that thread and see why it was closed.

Amen to that. £12 to attain almost llama free servers. Forget the webhosting, the ftps, the bookables...it's the holy grail of a good game on a public server that's attracting me.

I was going to post my views in the other thread, but it was closed. Hmpf.

Trebz, the black outline (border thx) of the smiley rollover is a different width on both images.

That is all.

Wireplay is still going, albeit in a vastly lesser form nowadays, since it was bought from Gameplay (the company that really royally screwed the service over - it was fine while it was still part of BT, much as it pains me to say that ;) )

http://www.wireplay.co.uk

And in answer to SG's post: Yes, We league runners will get our subs paid for us, as we put in a lot of work to the running of the various leagues that BW run for their players.

In a league week I'll spend somewhere around 25-30 hours (at a total rough guess, not actually sat down and worked it out tbh, not worried either cos I do it because I actually enjoy doing it - been running leagues for a few years now, in Q2 and Q3, sometimes out of my own pocket) working solely on the BWCPMRAL and all of its associated responsibilities and duties. Be that running the actual league on league day, working on the website, dealing with player enquiries in IRC, on the website and in e-mail, dealing with admins, maintaining, updating and double-checking the league results and so on.

Having my subs paid for me is a nice treat - I don't expect any sort of reward at all for doing what I do (never have done), and IMO the people that do it with the reason of expectancy of reward are doing it for entirely the wrong reasons.

Aye, twas. Had the best proper community of all time.

Hopefully BW can generate an equivalent community over time through the subs process.

Damn right I do, because although ArfBandit was erroneous in his reasoning, and it being proper to correct him on that point, this is something I'm fairly "passionate" about.

I love online gaming, and anything that is done with the intention to secure its future I wholly support.

Not unconditionally however, as I don't blindly follow like a sheep, but as long as it is done with a modicum of sense then I have no problem supporting any venture like this.

Heh, well I was involved in Wireplays community fairly heavily, and a lot of the people there knew me, and I knew them too (albeit mainly solely online through the forums), through gaming on the servers and forum banter.

To this day I'm still the highest poster on the WP forums (12,500 posts in 14 months - you lot are amateurs in comparison :p).

:D

Pop into #n2s, he's playing regular Q3 again and is playing for them now at tdm (and maybe a little CTF too).

Dunno where NGE went to though. :/

See misteh occassionally, and take the piss outta him still. Sound lad, nice to see at least sometimes skillz don't make you an utter pe0n.

Seen grom now and then, he actually posts here (albeit very rarely).

P is a regular reader/commenter on Yarn, so I speak to him often enough :)

Jekub I ain't seen in utterly donkeys, unless he's changed his nick. :)
