Eejit, was just gonna respond to a post!
Wireplay was great until they dropped the subs. And then even shitter to a greater extent when they went from the higher phone charges to fully open & public service.
I was a devoted WirePlayer from 1995-2001, while playing on BW publics a lot too (Duke Nukem, Q2 and Q3). I saw the service go from fantastic to shit, through ever increasingly open servers and services.
Basically on a free service the amount of utter fuckwits is immense, and subs, while hated by some, also has the beneficial side effect of rooting out the tosspieces who are basically only there to be a tosspiece and piss ppl off.
If subs cleans up the servers and leaves only (or largely) those people that purely want to have some fun by playing the game and being a committed member of the overall community then thank god says I.
There. That's all I wanted to say. Now to read the rest of that thread and see why it was closed.

Witty answers about freeloaders does not hide the fact that the path chosen by BW is the same as the path chosen by many other now redundent GSPs.
Wireplay anyone?
