It's not necessarily to show off, it can be so people know who/what they are talking to/about.

By not listing your chars you get accused of being afraid to reveal your identity

not rly, as long as you dont do as sarumann did imo. state your name and class and that should be enough. dont state name, rr, class, spec, cl, ml, etc. etc. we DONT care about anything else than your name and maybe, just maybe your class. say coldbeard, noob warrior solo would be fine imo, then people know they shouldnt kill you in grps and if they target you they know not to attack you coz you're a warrior
