Dad's PC Problem

Hello everyone!

Whilst visiting my parents last week, their internet was playing up. My dad used the BT help notifier thingy program (forget what its called exactly) to try and fix the program. Promptly after starting it up, an error saying "Warning; Firewall interference" popped up, and the computer turned itsself off (just a straight 'power off' like if someone had pulled the switch).

It wouldn't start again, so dad changed the fuse in the plug. No luck.

He took the PSU out and has now taken it to maplin's, where they did a power test and everything seemed fine on that.

There is currently no power getting to the mobo, no fans running, no lights going on, nothing.

He's at a bit of a loss and foresees a new mobo/processor on the horizon, so I thought I'd just ask here to see if anyone had any ideas on what it could be.

Thanks very much for your time guys!

If the PSU has been tested okay and the motherboard isn't showing any life at all, then it's either the mobo, RAM or CPU.
Simplest fix would be to swap out all three at the same time.
More expensive fix would be get a new PC base and hard drive enclosure. Then he can read the contents of his old hard drive on the new machine.

cheapest thing to test is the switch first tbh :p before you go through the mobo and all :p

Aye hes gonna go pick up a new switch from maplins today, you guys don't think it has anything to do with the weird error message or is that just coincidence?
