Surely you have seen what happens in the porno?

A hot young thing sleeps with her uni lecturer to get better grades, it must happen in real life!

That is so stupid and it shows why people campaigning for whatever right are the ones fucking things up. If it was not for some jumped up feminist that would have been taken for the joke it was but now it is an issue. I would love to see what would happen if a female teacher talked about admiring boy's would anyone give a shit?

Reminds me of that video that went round about a guy getting decapitated when running from police. It went round in a email saying something like why you should not run from the police. There was no mention of race in the email but because it showed a black guy being decapitated it turned into a major race thing. They cause more trouble than they fix.

Maybe he should know better in his position, and while it was impolitic of him to say it in an article, he has not actually broken any laws.
You find it disturbing that he can say it? I find it disturbing that you're disturbed because you're advocating restrictions on free speech and that leads us onto the idea of "thoughtcrime". Political correctness is just a tool being used to try and constrain people's way of thinking. Voltaire said, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." I hold a similar opinion to Voltaire. :)

For anyone who expresses an opinion, SOMEONE will be offended or put out by it. You can't go through life trying to avoid offending everyone because it's a lesson in futility. As long as they don't go out of their way to cause offence, people should feel free to express their opinion.

my point has nothing with free speech to do. Me speaking my mind is as much free speech as him doing it, no? im advocating nothing.
What i found disturbing was his comment of sexual favors for better ratings.
btw. it was this comment, i should have clarified:
"Thanks to the accountability imposed by the Quality Assurance Agency [the university watchdog] and other intrusive bodies, the days are gone when a scholar could trade sex for upgrades."

Yeah, what he said was a plonker thing to say in an article.

Erm Huntingtons, you do realise the entire article was tounge in cheek though? He was taking the piss, he has even ahd to come out and defend his comments as people have been taking them out of context of the article.

Sarcasm truly is wasted on some people. I cannot believe that comments that were entirely tongue in cheek & actually were being used to say that it's a good thing that this doesn't happen any more are being blown out of proportion & being interpreted the way they are.

Makes you wonder just what the world has come to when this is an 'issue' in the news. If you're writing about one of the seven deadly sins of being an academic then you're not going to go all fire & brimstone, but instead try & do something more modern.

I pity the world we seem to be living in & the people who make this much white noise about stuff like this as if there's nothing more important going on.

Im sorry (not really) that i didnt read it like that, but he was a stupid article for him to agree on. And an even more stupid comment to make in a jestful article.

You know what, maybe you should read the article in the context it was intended rather than judging it based on 3rd hand information.

people make an issue out of anything if theyve got nothing better to do.
im confronted with fuckers like this on a daily basis at work. if they have to wait in a queue for longer than 5 seconds, the whole shop needs closing down and they wished theyd never wasted their time in such a place. they should of just went to asda instead.

the funniest one was the other day. all the prices we show are above the products, in the whole fucking shop. some old woman starts screaming at me "how much are these tins the prices dont say theyre all confusing. the whole shop is setup to confuse people so they pay too much"

even when i told her all the prices are ABOVE every product in the whole shop, she still made an issue. apparently the whole shop needs changing around.

you know what? that was not posted - i was given this article to judge, which i did. Im not really bothered about this subject. I havnt lost sleep, worried my mind, talked about it or even thought about it besides when i see it on FH.
And you know what? Id rather not read the context it was intended in. Thats the beauty of reading, i can make my own mind up.

So you'd judge something based on 3rd hand information and you have the gall to call the lecturer in question stupid, disturbing and claim that he should know better. Get a clue.

We do like a storm in a tea cup and a witch hunt in the UK. If we can combine the two we are especially happy, no matter how pathetic the grounds for doing so.
