ctrl alt del makes the screen go black!

on winxp, when my dad does ctrl alt del the screen goes blank like the monitor is turned off. the only way to sort it out is to restart.

Thoughts:

Funny BIOS settings intercepting said key sequence and doing some sort of power management video shutdown (should see monitor power down)?

Wierd shortcut with Ctrl-Alt-Del as the hot key (not even sure XP will let you do this)?

If you can get another XP box on the network with his PC, then you can connect in using remote desktop and see if that gets hit too, if not then use it to investigate the machine state after the Ctrl-Alt-Del...

using remote desktop -

ctrl alt del blanks screen on dads pc, on my screen i can see the desktop and the mouse with eggtime. then after a while remote assistance shuts down on my pc.

Is the keyboard a standard keyboard, or one that requires extra drivers for all the extra buttons they sometimes have?

has been the same standard keyboard for the past year. one of those fiver jobbies
