Just got back to XP (from Vista), clean install. The only thing I have left from Vista are my Source files that I backed up. Source was playing pretty crap in Vista but was still playable.
Now I'm stuck with a mess. XP is running sweet, apart from Source. I can sometimes get away with 5 minutes of normal play, then every 10 seconds I get 5 second game freezes, with looping sound. It's not the 100% CPU bug, and I can't find any decent info on the Steam forums, and I can't post there cause I have no privs (they deleted my old forum account and refuse to give me privs now).
I just get a truckload of nonsense from Google too. This is a serious pain seeing as I ditched Vista in order to play games again :S Nevermind the fact that i almost nuked my PC whilst installing XP again, no idea how.
Will try downloading fresh GCFs, but beyond that I'm at a loose end. I've done the usual driver swap etc and no joy
