Guys,

I have yet to sample the delights of CS and to this end am thinking of purchasing half life blue shift. Would this allow me to play CS online??

Not if you don't have the original half-life.

Don't buy Blue Shift. It's pretty rubbish. For £5 extra you can get Half-Life: Generation, which comes with the original Half-Life, Opposing Force, Counter Strike and Team Fortress Classic. Mucho better m8

No problem, although to play CS and TFC online, you'll need to download this (Half-Life patch 1.1.0.6, which also patches TFC - 54mb), this (Counter Strike retail 1.1 patch - 19mb), and this (Conter Strike retail missing mappack - 18mb). But if you don't have a download manager, you'll definatley need one. Download Getright first, which I reckon is the best one. Very boring waiting for all them if yer on 56k

Err okay half-life generations gives u a few options here we go.

1) install HL and then download the full version of cs 1.1 and hl 1.1.0.6.

This option will cost you about 540mb of hard drive space, but will cause less hassle, the retail version needs replacment weapon anmes,mappacks and a tfc pacth to get it working, I suggest doing the above.

2) Install both HL and CS 1.0. retail. Okay hl will take 500mb, CS will take 300 odd, both will work without the other, a pointless option.

3)install cs1.0 retail on its own.

Still needs patching, weapon name fixes and map fixes.

Its your choice from here, I would provide links for everything but LN already did most. Err check what version HL installs out of the genrations pack, may not be 1.1.0.4 may need another patch to take it to that. Good luck.

It's not 1.1.0.4 in the pack, but the link i provided was to patch any version of HL. Just follow my steps and you'll be fraggin in no time...
